When you cannot pike

Ok...so piking is an art. I get it. But, just for the sake of making it clear to new pikers...there are some quests+some classes that do not equal pikage.

Case in point: Today in VoD the WF wizard decided 3/4 of the way thru the quest to park in a corner and go afk. NOTE TO NEW PIKERS: You cannot be the person doing the reconstruction on the WF tank and expect success. I realize my uberness may have lulled you into complacency...but we party wiped. (Just as a frame of reference, he decided a good time to park in a corner and hide would be right before the second group of orthons popped, so the healer was all tied up with the group.)

Piking is bad if you are the reconstructor. But, VoD reconstructor is just one example. Piking would be bad if you were the Sully tank. Piking is bad if you are a healer in Hound. Piking is bad if you are the only one who can open locks in the Shroud and people don't know how to solve their puzzles. You cannot pike if you are the only one who knows how to do the puzzle in the Reaver's Fate raid. You cannot pike if you are four manning Xorian Cipher and are not past the rune plates. You cannot pike if your job is to open the flame door in Enter the Kobold.... The list continues.

So, while we love to pike from time to time, maybe this would be a nice place for novice pikers to get their advice.

I am sure the community has plenty of "Do Not Pike" instuctions.

Just chip in you lazy bunch of bar swabs or else next time i see you rushing to a quest of explorer area i will make sure i pop all the chests i can find before you enter.

The only time I've attempted to pike was in a quest I was soloing. It didn't end well.

Even Butter has the decency to set up one of those birds with liquid in that that pecks up and down on his keyboard...alternating "Accept Raise Dead from (insert victim cleric)? Yes" and sending out, "Sorry guys, NooB!" text in party chat over and over again.

I regularly solo that raid with 11 pikers just so people can get free completions. There haven't been any patches since I did it last, so I'm not sure what changes you're referring to.

Umm, reaver is and always will be pikeable. I soloed it today and let a guildie pike. I do it all the time. I don't feel like wasting time to fill a group for a solo raid. Even when the eles were hard it was an easy solo.

Must have been a noob cleric... solo healing vod is easy with remove curse spamming. I could even pike thru that, my bird would have it covered.

If i remember correctly you can 2 man that quest. Hirelings(Not sure on this) and Pets are possible ways to activate the runes without actual players. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong though.

I'm pretty sure that Quik has successfully piked Tod while being Horoth tank. After all, you just position him, turn on autoattack and go afk.

Pretty sure the devs changed the AI of sully in vod just to prevent Quik from piking that too.

While a much lower and easier quest, you should not pike if you have gone 20 or more steps into WW Pt 2. Nothing is more annoying than having that voice tell you, "You must not leave until you free Arlos and gather your party". Then you see Quiklips (little known Quik alt Cleric/Sorc/Wiz combo) motionless, just out of range of the end....inexplicably saying "Sorry guys, NooB!" over and over again, but not moving. (Dam* him and his macros!)

A little known story.

When tod first came out I was indeed afk while tanking on my paly. Nature called and I was in the powder room. I had a wireless headset at the time so could hear everything. This was before we knew about 500+pt disintegrates and my paly was maxed at 530 hp. Evidently the cleric couldnt keep me full (lol) and I got 1 shoted. I heard the sound effect, then heard Moops yelling at me to take the raise (ofc I never told anyone I was afk they would have given me a hard time). Well I wasnt finished with my buisness, so I tried to shut down the hose in mid stream and come running back to the cpu.

After we completed it was:
