It's all about the art of subtle bragging.

For example, I would never post in my bio or on the forums that I've got 1000+ raid completions, ungodly numbers of tier III crafted shroud items, thoroughly uberized characters, mad sexiness, etc., etc. Instead, I let people find out those things by seeing how crazy humble I am in game (I am probably the most humble person in DDO)--and yet so incredibly uber--that they look me up on my.ddo or otherwise further research me only to find out that I am the best there is.

So I get all of the incredible benefits of bragging (i.e., public realization that I am way, way better than them) without people thinking that I am anything other than a nice guy.

And that's just one thing that makes me better than you and everyone else

Yeah, but even you aren't good enough to be invited into your own Raids, admit it (oh, thats right you did).

And still not better than Chuck Noris.

I actually invented Shades Max DPS build, the Hurtlocker, The Leeza build, The Westside build and the Exploit build, as well as the Leeza build and the Big F'ing stick build. Oh did I mention the Monster build too? Well, actually I didn't, but I did want to brag about what great toons they are... I did kick butt with some of them though..

Yeah yeah, I know... "you all hate the guy who did this or that or has this etc etc" and has to let ya know, but I gotta ask...

1. Do you have a bio that says "I killed Aratrikos or I healed for like 1 meelion, or I did this much damage?"
2. Do you write on forums that you hate braggers?
3. Do you write things like "I never brag?"

I suppose some would look at the following ...

... as bragging but reality - to me - is just a memory of uncanny luck - was from her first ToD raid run and I thought at the time dam what's the odds of getting in a last swing on those - and of course meant that my loot roll was going to amount to bloody jack *****.

More people need this attitude. Too many people get their panties in a twist just because you call them out on something. I blame the rpers Heck, we (the hated) make mistakes too - call us out.

I remember an episode of the TV show ER where one of the patients was an academic studying anger/violence response. He had trained himself to get people to act violently against him by saying just a sentence or two or three--he was a pro at knowing exactly how to get under people's skin. It was all about tone, context, etc. Even people that knew he was doing it as an exercise still got upset and attacked him.

Some people consciously or subconsciously have a tone/attitude/context of what they say (think mother-in-law) that drives other people to hate/anger/pity, etc.

Some people don't know they are doing it. Some observe the negative impact and have some understanding of what they are doing, but don't quite get the nuances of it. Some know exactly what they are doing and enjoy the sport of it (or need the psychological benefit it gives them). For some it is a bad habit they are trying to shake--but have a hard time shaking. Others could care less and have no interest in changing.

I'm not a believer in world filled only with puppies and rainbows (It'd be nice--but I am a realist that it won't happen). That being said, those that convert from being "hated" personalities, like the Grinch, tend to gain a deeper enjoyment of life/game/etc. That's a natural impact of having one's heart grow at least 10-fold

True. In red for me especially. Thus far my trying to shake it and be nicer has only opened up more blacklists for me to join and caused more stress for those in game who never had a problem with me

Interestingly enough, some research has shown that almost all the hate is attached simply to the name and not my behavior.
