Hi, I am relatively new to clericing, and I am trying to determine the most efficient way to spend my SP when healing. I wonder if there is a concise explanation of the multipliers available for curative spells. I know Devotion, Potency, Empower Healing (Empower as well?), and Maximize all contribute to the total HP healed, but I am unsure how they stack, and what multiplier is applied first (or if that matters). Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

At least for feats, I know that they stack such that for example Max + Emp would be 150% (100+50). I believe gear works the same way.

Essentially the % increases add together.

Your metamagic and enhancements will all stack and will all stack with an item. Potency, devotion, and ardor won't stack together, but in some combinations will complement each other if they have different prefix (improved, greater, superior) and different level (IV, V, VI...)

For example, if you have a Superior Devotion IV item and a Greater Potency VI item, your levels 1-4 cure spells will benefit from the 50% S.Devotion, and your levels 5 & 6 cure, heal, and damage spells will take their 40% from G.Potency.

However, carrying a Superior VI and a Greater IV would be no benefit at all to healing, since 1-6 all would benefit from the Superior's 50%, and ignore the 40%.

All the stacking percentages are added up (not compounded) and applied to the base. Sequence doesn't matter.

as simple +:ing of % this means order of when different % are added does not affect end result

ardour clickies are very interesting as high lvls they are easy to get for higher lvl spells were there isnt any potency/devotion items for while being better % then devotion/potency.
at low lvl because they have extremely low lvl req while still being better % bonus.
you can find a +1 superior ardour IV clickie lvl2 req for 75% bonuses to healing for 3x3minutes to get a superior devotion IV item minimum lvl req will be lvl8 (lvl6 hard to find)

At lower levels, try to get a potency or devotion hat. If you are lucky, you can find one on the AH from time to time. I think I have a greater devotion III bandana banked for my clerics. Now just stick to cure spells that fall under this rank. You will find that a cmw does far more healing than a cure critical which falls out of that range, and for much less mana.

At mid levels, you can go with a larger bonus item to match your increasing spell selection. I prefer to have it on a shield myself, as I like to wield a useful weapon and whack mobs instead of just hanging back and healing (a waste of a spot on the party) or tossing offensive spells (a very viable option). The extra AC still comes in handy if you build correctly, tho eventually it wont matter much.

Once you can cast blade barrier and heal, you definitely want a potency VI item, either greater or superior. There are plenty of amrath neclaces and belts with it, but they are ML18. I got greater potency VI on my dragontouched armor, but its not finished yet (same old story..) so at the moment I think I am running with a greater potency VI shield.

Combined with maximize for cure spells and empower healing for heal and mass heal, you can really keep the party on its toes. Those two metamagics are ALWAYS on for me. I find that I rarely need more than mass cmw and heal to keep everyone alive, and only add more to my hotbar for heal intensive raids where you need to spam at least three different versions to avoid cooldown timers. Of course, you take cleric life magic to 4 ranks.

the % increases mulitply, not add. So Max + Emp = 200% * 150% = 300% (3x healing power)
with a superior item (50%), enhancements (40%), Max (100%), Emp (50%), and Emp healing (50%) you get

1.5 * 1.4 * 2 * 1.5 * 1.5 = 9.45 = 945% increase

Item effects, as others have stated, do not stack

I always leave empowered-healing on. A Maximized Mass Cure spell costs fewer SP that casting that spell twice so it make sense to leave it maxed.

You're mistaken. They do not multiply, they add. I have life magic 4 and 40% potency, and get 270 point base heals (180%) , where on yourr scheme I should be getting just under 300 (196%).

Actually everyone so far is wrong.

Items and enhancements stack (the best one of each) additively. So 40% Cleric Life Magic 4 stacks with 40% Greater Devotion 6 for 80%.

Next, metamagics stack additively with each other. So Maximize and Empower Healing are a 150% increase.

Last, these two categories stack multiplicatively with each other. For a total of 1.8 * 2.5 = 4.5 times total healing on your Mass Cure Light Wounds (if that's the spell you cast).

Proof: My cleric runs with (typically) Superior Potency 6 (50%), Life Magic 4 (40%) and Empower Healing (50%).

Heal's base amount of healing is always 150. My empowered Heal hits me for (100%+50%+40%)*(100%+50%)*150 = 427.


Finally, these numbers all stack multiplicatively with any crit heals that occur, and also with any healing amplification your target has.

Yep, emp and emp heal do stack. Thing to consider is, with the update 5 empower healing will be +75% if you choose the Radiant Servant PrE. Alas, clerics only.

Also, the most SP efficient spells - heal and mass heal - benefit only from empower healing. Maximize and empower do nothing for these.

The most commonplace result is this Heal spell (to which Maximize and Empower don't apply):
10 * 15 * (1.9) * (1.0) = 285
