    Default Gotta love Tech Support...

    I decided I should call AT&T...

    Apparently they don't like it when you owe them $173, but I needed me some internet so I decided to pay anyway...

    The first question the crazy lady asks me when she gets on the phone?

    Any guesses? Come on don't be shy...

    Alright you lose..

    She asked me, and I quote...

    "Can I get your 13 digit telephone number please?"

    ......

    13 digits????

    Kind of like EA. Every issue is apparently fixed by being told how to properly install Direct X.

    Then, you get told to ask the tech support of the other company involved with the game. Who then sends you back.

    So you can be properly schooled in how to install Direct X. Again.

    EDIT: Aren't phone numbers 10 digits? And don't they have caller ID? They should, they're a telecommunications company.

    I rang up Comcast Internet Tech Support recently regarding a problem with data packet loss/interception that was interfering with some of the online games I play.

    The conversation went a little like this:

    Me: **explination of my problem**

    TS: Are you sure you have enough memory to run those games?

    Me: (thrown by the random unrelated question and playing along so as not to look like a know-it-all jerk) Errr...ok....do you mean RAM or Hard Drive space?

    TS: Thats the same thing isnt it?

    Me: Can I speak to somebody else?

    I find myself wondering why I can't get a job as tech support.

    I could be a vegetable and be effective. It's like, piking a job.

    I must be too smart or something.

    The telephone system now requires the use of 1 + (area code) + number (xxx-xxxx)
    So lets do the math:
    1=1
    +
    (123)=3
    +
    (123-4567)=7

    Total: 13

    WEAKSAUCE!!!!

    Get some other carrier!!!

    Called up Comcast told them I wanted to get Tivo and asked if would work. Was told YES.

    Got Tivo, instructions said I needed a chip or something. Called Comcast set appointment to install Tivo. They make appointment to install Tivo.

    Guy gets there says you CAN'T use Tivo.

    Call Comcast, they say you CAN use it the guy is wrong. I'm disconnected mid phone call.

    Call back, new person says you CAN'T use Tivo. Ask to speak to supervisor. He says you CAN'T use Tivo, they have their own DVR system and furthermore he doesn't believe anyone at Comcast actually told me I could. (even though, as I pointed out, I had an appointment to have Tivo installed)

    I ignore the fact that I was accused of making it up and set up an appointment to have their DVR installed.

    Days later new guy comes out and sees the Tivo box and asks why i don't just use that? I say I was told I CAN'T. He says you CAN, Tech support doesn't know what their talking about. He says call and make an appointment to have the chip installed (because he was here for one thing and isn't allowed to do something not scheduled). Call up comcast, they say you CAN'T install Tivo. Guy at house REFUSES get on the phone with them.

    I flip out and was transferred to someone else who says 'sometimes you CAN - sometimes you CAN'T' depending on who shows up and what equipment they have - and no they can't send a guy who is sure to have the right box etc - and no the guy there now can't do it because it's not scheduled - and no they can't just schedule it now because I have an open appointment - and no they cant just close that appointment and schedule a new one while the guy with the right equipment is here.

    I'll stop now but this went on for days and days. Each saying the other is wrong.

    And they wonder why they are one of the most hated companies in America.

    Well, at a guess, if they had outsourced all of their support to India, the caller ID might not carry over, and they also might need a country code (another 3 digits).
