    hometown: sparta, WI (8000)
high school in La Crosse, WI (56000) (95000 area)
    undergrad: Eau Claire, WI (80000)

currently, graduate school and job: st. paul, MN (1.5 mil+ metro area)

I still drive over an hour to EC to go out drinking with my buddies, its cheaper to drive there and go out then it is to go out here. And they know how to make a drink in wisconsin.

A.) Stevens Point, WI (~20,000, depending on whether the university is in session or not)
B.) Right now I just finished two brats made fresh (not once frozen, natural casing) that I grilled over charwood (not some **** briquettes) made in Maple Grove, WI. Right now I am finishing the New Glarus Fat Squirrel that I started with those brats.

    apples and oranges I suppose,

I just didnt want the one ugly major metro area to represent wisconsin

the ugliness of most of milwaukee one of the reasons that I chose to move to st. paul, which is easily nicer in appearance.

The Joynt? Cool place. If you were in Eau Claire from '98-2002ish, I was a radio guy with Central Radio Group there. (WAXX/WAYY)

Also a huge fan of New Glarus brewery. Every time I drive through the state I pick up a case of Totally Naked or Spotted Cow.

Oh man, such great turnout! I'm feelin the love!
Now all we need is 14in of snow, a fireplace, and some Brandy Old Fashioneds!

It's funny. I live out East now, with roomies from NJ, VA, and KY. None of them seem to care about their home state that much. I show my Badger pride pretty much constantly!

Spotted Cow rocks! Wife and I got married in Eau Clarie - took a few phone calls, but had Spotted Cow on tap all night long!

Everytime we head to WIS, we come back with a car load of cheese and beer...

Did you grow up in Stevens Point? I grew up between Wausau and Antigo out in the boonies. Went to DC Everest high school. I have several friends and family who went to UWSP. You're practically in my hometown neighborhood

I grew up mostly in Iowa.

You know why Iowa is awesome?

They're the largest US producer of these:

Thanks to Iowa (ok and a handful of other states, but mainly Iowa!) you can enjoy something like this:

    aka ~The Jelly Bean Slinger

Then darkness would eat me. Cold would devour me.
I would die naked beneath a blackthorn, keening for the missing moon.

    So here's your format Midwesterners.
    A) Hometown (population)
    B) Why your state is the grooviest and/or the Midwest is the best region in this whole crazy, mixed up world.

    I'll start.
    A) Sturgeon Bay, WI (pop 9500)
    B) I love Wisconsin because of the great brats (!), the gazillion local breweries (!!), and the deep-fried cheese curds (!!!)

    *Disclaimers*
    1) The Midwest consists of Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri (more or less), and Iowa.
    2) ND, SD, NE, KS, OK are Plains states, not Midwestern states. Call your local Geographer to complain; you've got to get in on this guys!
    3) Minnesotans need not apply. You guys and Brett Favre can take that **** elsewhere!
I currently live in Hawai'i, but a Gander at heart.

    A. Hometown Belding, MI. Population: 5600. Home of Gus Macker, THe Redskins High School Football, and is 7 miles from the home of Meijers, and the Apple trees out number the residents. 2 stoplight town.

    B. I personally like it, but my hubby's side of the state (Detroit) is horrid.

I love the forest and the feeling you are living on the edge of civilization.

    What...I AM. Canada!

I love being a Troll (lower Pennisula) I love the Spartans and Red Wings.

I love the fall and the lakes and Rivers and Grand Rapids.

I love covered Bridges...the OLD ones.

I love the fact my state isn't Mountainous, but it isn't flat either.

I love Frankenmuth (Bronners and Bavairan Inn gets the my cash) and the lake effect snow on a December morning. You know, the one that falls during the night and covers the town in white fluffliness.

I love the Great Lakes and the Lighthouses on them.

    I like the "Edmund Fitzgerald."

I love the Ionia Free Fair.

I like the Elk and Moose and Wolves that walk among the old copper mines.

    I just like Michigan.
