Exclamation I Love Wisconsin! (and the Midwest)

I noticed that frequent forum poster Chai shows the Wisconsin love in his location AND his signature. So I thought to myself, "Self....that's a gosh darn good start dohncha know!"

    So here's your format Midwesterners.
    A) Hometown (population)
    B) Why your state is the grooviest and/or the Midwest is the best region in this whole crazy, mixed up world.

    I'll start.
    A) Sturgeon Bay, WI (pop 9500)
    B) I love Wisconsin because of the great brats (!), the gazillion local breweries (!!), and the deep-fried cheese curds (!!!)

    *Disclaimers*
    1) The Midwest consists of Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri (more or less), and Iowa.
    2) ND, SD, NE, KS, OK are Plains states, not Midwestern states. Call your local Geographer to complain; you've got to get in on this guys!
    3) Minnesotans need not apply. You guys and Brett Favre can take that **** elsewhere!

    Walter-Peyton-Manning

Chicago Colts Doing the Super Bowl Gallop

Larry Bird.... but do I really want to claim him?

President Daley (because anyone who knows ANYTHING about Politics knows that Mayor Daly runs IL and Pres Obama came from Illinois

And as I live at the southern most tip of Lake Michigan...I want to thank the dwellers of Sturgeon Bay for all the Wind they send south!!

    Okay... We'll take Larry

I'm a Minnesotan, but I lived in Wisconsin for about six years and loved it. Beer and cheese, man, beer and cheese. Locally produced cheese at the Mega Pick n' Save ruled (Chippewa Valley Cheese, get it if you ever find it.) Where else can you buy real beer at like 1:30 in the morning at a gas station on Sunday?

    Madison, Wisconsin (about 210,000 people)

Great town (a perfect balance between city and country); great state. People are helpful and generous. The type of place where if your car breaks down, there is competition between people pulling over to help.

I was born and lived in Wisconsin until I finished my 2nd degree at UW-Madsion (9 years ago)... The job as taken me to Iowa, but I do miss home (see I still call it home). I was in Madison for 7 wonderful years - brats, cheese, beer,.... Grew up in the Eau Claire area (30 min south)...

I still get back there every few months... lot of friends and good times!

    Mizzery.

Grew up 12 miles outside a huge metropolis of 250 folks, mostly related to one another.

The fishing was good - til they put a lake on top of my favorite fishing holes.

I escaped once, but it found me and dragged me back.

    A) Downers Grove, IL (Western Suburb of Chicago)

    B) I'm a city person and I wish I could get downtown more often. There is so much availability for food and entertainment. Also Chicago has a beautiful lakefront of Lake Michigan, its not the ocean but being on one of the Great Lakes is the best a Midwestern state can achieve. Italian beef sandwiches and deep dish pizza!

I lived in central Minnesota for quite a while and I can say its nice to visit in the summertime, but I detested the winters.

    Cool Middle of Nowhere

Hometown: Indianapolis (home of the Indianapolis Colts, BTW) but live in NW Ohio, 27 miles from the nearest Wal-Mart!
Midwest is best because: no hurricanes, no big earthquakes, only snowed in a few days, Rendezvous, peace and quiet, real people. Plus I have my pick of several professional teams to root for (Bears, Lions, Browns, Colts, Buckeyes) and don't get ribbed too much.

Thumbs up Wisconsin all the way!

Grew up just north of Wausau, WI. Don't let that California propaganda fool you - WI is THE Dairy State. Graduated from Michigan Tech in the UP (for those who know what that is . Now I'm living in Arizona for a job, but miss the midwest like crazy (although I do have to admit, AZ is not that bad a place to live). Can't wait for my trip home this summer! I think I will have to find some yummy cheese curds

Edit - oh yea, I don't really follow football, but I have to say, you can't grow up in WI without being a Packers fan Good riddance to Farve, isn't about time he retired anyway?

Lions....? Well, there is one thing I have to say for my husband (he grew up in MI), he is a faithful Lions fan, stayed faithful to them through their record-breaking season a couple years back Definately missing the best Midwest team on your list though!

    Default I'm from Wisconsin too!!!

    A) Green Bay, WI 100,000 (with surrounding area 250,000)
    B) I love eating Bratwurst and Cheese (all types), watching my favorite team "the Packers" with tailgating of course, and living in a town with a tavern on almost every street corner. Nothing is better than living in a place where I can party on Friday night and still be hungover on Sunday!

Indeed. Very excellent brewery. Its just close enough that its not a bad road trip for us Chicagoians, which I have done with some buddies.

My next one is to stop off at the Surly brewery in Brooklyn Centre when I am heading up to Minnesota next month. We can get them here at some pubs that have craft beer taps, but its always better at the brewery.

    From South Bend, IN.

Went to Ball State then moved to Indy for 5 years.

Six years ago, I decided to move to a real city and now I live 4 blocks from Wrigley Field.

There is nothing fantastic about the midwest past, NASCAR, fat people, ever changing weather, corn, racial jokes, cheese, breweries and hunting!

My UW-Stout roomate worked at the brewery during his summers. His father was one of the few full time employees. Go Blue Devils

Grew up about an hour northwest of Eau Claire.

    The Facts

Town I went to school in: pop 1,110. 18 miles away. # of taverns 5

Town we had our address in: pop 290. 9 miles away (those kids all went to a different town for school) # of taverns 4

Town we had our phone number in: Unincorporated with <100. (and those kids all went to a 2nd town different school) No taverns, but see below.

Nearest Bar: 4 miles away despite no surrounding town.

Next Nearest Bar 6 miles away despite no surrounding town.

Grew up on a dairy farm? Check
Drank Beer to the glow of burning old tires? Check
Cow Tipping? Negative. I did however demonstrate to amazed friends that you could light their flatulence on fire.
