The underpants gnomes could do it in just three steps.

And no, clerics do not have to be primarily healers.

Bah. Complete and total ****... New players don't worry about what the OP thinks Clerics should be. There are a hellova lot a good war priests out there. Is it the best to learn on? maybe not. Do you need a clr to run any of the quests? No, so learn to play better and not rely on a clr OP.

If you play your lvl 20 clr as a support character, you are really missing out on a lot of your build's potential.

    Most importantly:

play what you want, play it to the best of your ability, watch, learn, grow, and, for the love of game, HAVE FUN.

In short while they should be only at -5bab and then at -0 once they use their bab spell the truth is even after it they are still about -15 or -20 to hit vs a barb or kensai fighter. They do however have a nice set of offensive spells they can dish out damage with if they choose to.
Divine Power gives them full BAB. Divine favor further adds to the to hit. Clerics do not have trouble hitting, if they are made to hit. Even my low str FvS can buff up his to hit to sufficient level. What rog can match the to hit of a bbn or kensai? that is not the point. The point is a divine melee works great and is fun to play.

Bards can heal too, you know. If you are depending on a cleric to heal you, then you should rethink your bard build.

This attitude is the reason why a lot of PUGs advertised for clerics/FvS and not getting them. Why should a Cleric/FvS just sit back and heal you? I would rather solo the quests than group with people who shout "HEAL ME HEAL ME!"

    Cool Wow...

Hmmm ok. I cant believe some of the responses that this thread has received but then again this is Khyber. It was my bad the thread title should have said SUPPORT CLASS not tanks and if your read my OP it does. I'm not saying that a cleric has to play nannybot but a cleric does need to heal I'm not saying a cleric cant jump in and help out in combat if it's needed but when they do they need to pay attention to life bars. Alot of the noob clerics I have been running into in pugs on my lowbie bard seem to think that combat is all there is and don't know that they have healing spells and well my bard goes through three cure serious wands trying to make up for that fact.

    Bah!!!
I really wish that people get some experience with the game before they start posting advice.
And no, getting a free ride to 20 is not experience with the game. Heck, It's not even experience with a singe class...

well then coach them and help them learn... thats what im doing with a friend of my who is brand new to the game and chose her first char as a cleric and ppl like to pug with her as she knows to heal though it is hard when starting to know how much u need to concentrate on the bars and help to fight cuz they DO get bored just healing.... yes it gets frustrating when u die (if u die) sometimes but they arent going to get any better with u telling them in the forums they are here just to heal.... u need to guide them in game... putting the title as clerics are for healing could turn ppl away from a great class...

-edit- and anyway ur bard should have a cure spell and be a lil self sufficent anyway, mine is...

News flash: Before level 14 or so (for average players) there is really no reason to even wait to have a cleric in a group. People that need a babysitter need to - as others stated before - learn to play.

    Dear OP

    They

    get

    bored.

And seriously... who are you to care as long as they don't get themselves killed? Let them smack stuff until they finally get bb and destruction. At low levels and a couple of CSW pots it's not like you need them anyway.

    HAVE FUN!

    Default Wow, man.

Did you seriously post this Troll Bait on Khyber Forums?

The roles for classes in this game are far less rigid than you're clearly accustomed to. Please leave your preconceptions at the door when you enter a new game.

    Default Be honest people.

I wish that all the people on here flaming me for my thread would be honest with themselves and with others as well. Truly people when creating a party and looking for a healer are you looking for a tank. No I thought not. I'm not saying that they cant help in combat with either offensive spells which clerics get alot of nice ones or jumping in and doing some melee but when it comes down to it they are healers thats thier roll.

I live to troll so let the neg rep roll.
if you lfm for a healer and a tankish cleric joins and he fails at healing then the fault is at the player of said cleric

what you are describing are bad players, not bad builds

In an ideal world, fighters fight, clerics pray, barbarians wield big axes and bards sing songs.

    Wait a minute.....welcome to DDO

    Default my compleatly heal speced...

...cleric still can mele better than my bard. And I hardly play him any more because he is boring to play when only healing. All I get to look at is the health bars. I could be blind otherwise. And add to that the fighters that don't even carry heal pots or other self heal stuff and don't even pause to quaff a few between battles and you know why I only cleric for friends anymore.

hmmm... well a *lot* of clerics don't join parties that are looking for a healer - cos they can solo a lot of stuff themselves.

but truly, if a party is looking for a healer then the expectation is a) they def will not have heal pots to top themselves up between fights so you will have to do that for them (which wastes sp but nvm) and b) are likely to be newer players who haven't learnt things like not letting mobs flank them, not drawing off more mobs than they can take down, not running out of range of the healz... the usual suff (again sp intensive).

so yes in those circumstances a cleric would possibly sit back and do the boring wait to be used.

    or pocket stones.

depending on what mood they're in.

personally as i don't know the quests very well yet i'll heal until the blue goes and then, um, yeah... we gotta find a shrine (so *everybody* gets to learn how to manage the blue cleric sp bar - what fun!)

    a different type of challenge

some clerics even get snooty if you heal yourself between - but if a cleric wants to melee i'll buff them up and let them whack stuff at these low levels just to keep themselves entertained. why not be nice to people now so that they'll remember and help me out when i need heals for a TOD later?

mutal respect - i want my clerics to have fun. i want to have fun too.

So, the fact that there are players out there including myself who play warpriests(also called Battle Clerics), build their character around melee, and consistently get the highest kill counts in the group every quest without any offensive spellcasting means that we need to L2P? I assure you tanking on a cleric and being first in melee is not a difficult or even dangerous task if you know what your doing, even on elite.
