I hope there were several runs of "Rainbow in the Dark" today in honor of the great Ronnie James Dio.

If you haven't done this yet, I recommend putting that song on repeat while playing through the dungeon.

I'm glad I got to see him a couple of times live. He always seemed to sincerely care about his fans deeply, which makes it all the more saddening.

He gave the world some classic material, even up until his final year. I always loved the fantasy leanings in his lyrics, and really does any music go better with D&D than Dio?

I know what my soundtrack will be today.

No f****** way! That just sucks.

Saw him live with Maiden a few years back and even though he was in his early 60's he still sounded just like he was 22 years old.

Kind of crazy that he passed before guys like Keith Richards and Ozzy.

A true great and the author of a few classic, all time metal/hard rock songs.

    RIP

    R.I.P Dio

When I was in the Navy, my buddies and I requested so much Dio from the radio station that they would just play us a Dio song every night and give us a shout out. His music made our watches bearable.

-- Someone just edited the heck out of Ronnie James Dio's Wikipedia page. Last night it detailed his entire life, accurately. Now its all gone. I hope Wikipedia has the original page saved. You might see this on the news folks. One of the new subjects however caught my eye instantly (copying here before it gets deleted by the wikipolice):

    Dungeons and Dragons.

Not very many people know that Dio did in fact create Dungeons & Dragons in 1292, with fellow co-Dragon slayer/Knight (turned Dark Knight) King Diamond. King Diamond and Dio quite often sat together and played, Dio being the highest Magician ever. Dio was a level 10,000 Magical Dragontamer, while King Diamond is only a level 7,666 Hellspawn Warrior.
It should be noted that Dio always rolled natural 20s. Always.

    Edit:
Final Official Update from Wendy Dio:
"Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45am 16th May. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us. Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss. Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever."

Wow this is horrible, Ronnie is a legend.

I just cant even fathom the whole thing right now.

    RIP my man.

I made a compilation of mostly old rockers on the forums a few months back based on some of our levels, it was specifically inspired by "Rainbow in the Dark". Have made it now has so much more meaning for me now.

If anyone wants to check it out, i think all the links still work (ill check it out).

    ****...

I had just gotten one of my guildies to catch the correlation between Ronnie James Dio's song, Rainbow in the Dark, and the vale quest.

I am truly saddened to see him go. But knowing what I do about the suffering involved with stomach cancer, I'd rather see him rocking an arena beyond the sun. My only regret is having seen him play live only once, and being too young to fully appreciate it.

Default another of the greats gone

He was so vastly greater than any of todays metal/rock singers. He shall be missed by me so much.

One day in the year of the fox came a time remembered well
When the strong young men of the rising sun heard tolling of a great black bell
One day in the year of the fox when the bell began to ring
It meant the time had come for the one to go to the Temple of the King

Guess he heard the bell ringing. RIP Dio.

I need to get my vinyl player fixed. Right fraggin' now. I got Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow staring at me from the shelf accusingly.
