I understand the idea of BAB and what it does, but what I don't get is the x/x/x/x format. What does each number mean, and why are there numbers added as you level?

I don't get what you mean...
BAB in-game appears only as a single number, two if you use effects like divine power...
But in PNP, the format x/x/x/x meant the number of attacks you could do per round and the "x" meant the bonus added to your to-hit.
It might be that you are using a monk, which you would see "x/x" for BAB, but if it is that, then since monk is a 3/4 BAB class, but a center monk has a full BAB, there is one number for uncentered, and one for when you are centered.
but like Kelden said, this game doesn't use "x/x/x/x" format
OP I think I know what you mean, I share the same inquiry.
In most builds I see in the forums, they list their BAB as X/X/X/X/X. Just like how they list their saves as X/X/X, which is clearly fortitude/reflex/will.
Probobly talking about Rons Character Planner...
DDO uses a Progressive attack bonus based on y our core BAB.
FIrst allack is your "BASE" (Level 20 Fighter would be 20)
The next numbers are your attack as yu continue to swing through the Sequence. you get +5 and then +10 to your BAB for continueing your chain.
Attacks further into your attack chain get a bonus to hit, I imagine that is what you are referring to?
Yah it's the BAB for each swing, should have realized that sooner, now I know why when you have your inventory up the to-hit goes all over the place. Little common sense goes a long way :/.
Yes it does.
Go find a target that won't move or fight back (like the target dummy in house D or a portal or a friend in pvp).
Start swinging, watch as your bonus to hit changes on each swing.
Unlike PnP we use an increasing to-hit based on the bab instead of a decreasing one, but we definately use it.
