I happen to be a picky eater.. I despise some ingredients, and simply can't eat foods prepared with them. Other ingredients I can live with, but don't particularly like. There are people out there who can eat anything - I get that and wish I was like that, but it turns out some things either don't agree with me or taste so vile that even thinking about the flavor makes me want to vomit.
The thing is, these people who can eat anything seem to have something against eating the same thing if less than a week has passed. "OMG I can't have chicken for dinner, I just had that last tuesday!" So when the office (or any group of people) decides to get together and order pizza, all these people request their personal exotic favorite, or at the very least, a "combination with everything".
Say there are 20 people, and it is determined that 10 pizzas can feed them all. So of the 10 pizzas, a couple standard pepperoni and maybe a sausage are ordered, and the other 7 are some combination of ingredients. I don't have a problem with other people ordering what they want.. not by any stretch.. sure, the smell of onions and peppers brings bile up in my throat, but I can live with it.
So what's the rub? Well, the pizza arrives, and EVERYONE grabs a slice of pepperoni or sausage first. WHAT THE HECK!! They ordered some crazy combination of Goat cheese and jalepeno, then take the standby pepperoni! So I get to the table and guess what? My choices are the goat cheese, the onion with extra onion, or the Vegetarian delight. Of course, in the end, that is all that is left, since the one's who insisted there be the huge variety were only really interested in one slice of their personal preference.
The kicker is, if you insist the next time that more of the basic stuff is ordered, YOU are the one who is ridiculed for it!! "AWW I don't want Pizza if all we are getting is pepperoni, I'm not pitching in unless we get one with ostrich egg and dandelions!"
Is it just me, or are these people ordering the exotic stuff so that when they go back for seconds they know it will be something they can eat?
One more question.. who is the more picky eater, someone who can eat anything but only if a week passes since they last had it, or someone who prefers the basic meat and potatoes but can eat the same meat and potatoes every night of the week for a year without complaint?
What really cracks me up is when I take someone to a restaurant.. I find something I really like at a given restaurant and order it every time, since I know what I will get and that I will like it. The person with me can't possibly order the food they had last time even though they liked it, because they HAVE to try something different. They get their food and can't stand it, but I am the one who is a picky eater because I stuck to the same old food I knew I would like.
OK.. I am done ranting.. for now.
