Default Top 10 Musicians that SHOULD be in the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame

I'm a musician. I've had many influences, some of which reside in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, OH. There are many pioneers however, that do not walk these halls that Elvis Presley and the other grand rock n roll souls forever will.

When you listen to the music, one can wonder HOW these great artists never got their day in the limelight. Like em or not, these musicians, in my opinion, helped shape Rock 'n Roll. To me, the RRHoF just isnt what it could be without these influential musicians.

    1. Mountain

Mississippi Queen - One of the most requested Rock songs of all time. Rockband and Guitar Hero made this song a hit all over again, 40+ years after it was first released..

Southbound Train - When a reporter asked Jimi Hendrix who his favorite act was, he named Mountain. When Jimi jammed with Leslie West after Woodstock, it was Jimi who played bass.

Theme For An Imaginary Western - maybe the greatest guitar tone of all time.

Never in my Life - wicked drum solo at the 3:00 mark by Corky Laing. Felix's fuzzy Bass, Leslie's tone, and Corky's hard hittin all on display here. All 3 were highly influential.

Nantucket Sleighride - Londoner's would know this classic. Was the theme for Weekend World from 1972 to 1988.

Don't Look Around - Did you ever break up with a significant other? Happy you left? Then this song is a MUST listen.

    2. Kiss

Rock and Roll All Night - Live in Japan.... Made in America. Need I say more?
God of Thunder - These guys were WAY before their time. Kiss takes playing an axe to a WHOLE nother level.
Beth - When hard rock meets the rock ballad, you go to this ditty.

    3. Moody Blues

    Nights in White Satin
    Tuesday Afternoon
I'm Just a Singer in a Rock n Roll Band

    4. Grand Funk Railroad

    We're An American Band
    The Locomotion

    5. Stevie Ray Vaughn

    Pride and Joy
Midnight hour - with the legendary BB King, Etta James, Billy Ocean, Gladys Knight. Respect your pioneers, baby.
Sweet Home Chicago - SRV,Buddy Guy Eric Clapton, Robert Cray and Jimmie Vaughan playing Sweet Home Chicago live at Alpine Valley this is the last song Stevie Ray Vaughan (R.I.P) ever played!

The Loss of SRV - My lil tribute to one of the greatest guitarists that ever lived. Wake up RRHoF, there's a few artists that need to get out of the cold.

    6. Alice Cooper

    School's Out
    Poison

    7. Rush

    Anthem
    Tom Sawyer

    8. Heart

Crazy on You - A very rare take from Burt Sugarman's Midnight Special
    Magic Man
What About Love - I remember this 8th grade dance.... and this girl....

    9. Ten Years After

    I'm Going Home
Whole Lotta Shakin Goin On - Alvin Lee, Leslie West, Steve Howe (sorry Yes fans), Ted Turner, & Steve Hunter rock out London

    10. Aaron Neville

Young and Beautiful - An angelic voice that simply can not be duplicated. Neville has crossed gospel, rock, country, jazz, and r&b genres.
Don't Know Much - duet with Linda Ronstadt.
Amazing Grace - There will be no mention of Aaron Neville without this gospel song, which can vibrate the coldest souls. THIS is where Rock 'n Roll music came from folks.

I'd love to know if anyone listens to musicians that you feel should be in the Hall.

IS THe Cure in the Rock n Roll Hall of fame? Their guitar work was awesome!

Nightwish, but most Americans don't know that group.

    Enigma...not exactly Rock n Roll

    Enya and Clannad..same as above.

Sting (part of the Police) and David Bowie I think are there, so is U2. Bon Jovi?

Agree totally. As a matter of fact when I made this list, I checked 3x to make sure I didnt miss it. Run DMC over Stevie Ray Vaughn!? That's just not right. Apparently musicians aren't the only folks who have indulged in acid.....

However the Jordanaires are not. They are the gold standard. The most famed backing vocal unit in rock thanks to their long association with Elvis Presley, as well their work with Ricky Nelson, Sonny James, and Esquerita among many others. A gospel quartet on their own who nevertheless provided rock 'n' roll with a crucial and immediately identifiable sound.

Rush isn't in there? Really? Most people would agree they're--quite possibly--the best band that's ever hit America, on a technical scale.

HAhahaha!!! I'll bet you $5 that Pete never sees the inside of the Baseball Hall of Fame... Oh, bad me.... (All jokes aside, don't even get me started about the Baseball HOF. You got drunks, drug dealers, steroid abusers, and other felons in the Hall, but a natural athlete who had a betting problem can't get in? Hall of fames should be about TALENT.)

Kiss & Mountain were rebels. They were so anti-normal, over-the-top and bad assed they became cult heros. However their pioneer efforts and decades of great influential music should be enshrined.

ABBA got inducted this year. ABBA, but not Rush, Yes, SRV, Mountain, **** Dale or hundreds of other groups and performers who are far more talented than freaking ABBA. Dancing Queen is apparently more 'rock and roll' than Tom Sawyer, Limelight or The Spirit of Radio.

    EDIT:
Heh, I can't even type D*ck Dale, the father of surf guitar, without being censored.

Haha, I actually had CCR in my list, then had to remove it. They were inducted in '93.

    They were so great.

Nope. RUSH is good technically there's no doubt about that.

However, the best band of technical musicians ever was the Yes lineup consisting of Bill Bruford (classically trained percussionist at the Royal College of Music), Rick Wakeman (keyboardist also trained at the Royal College of Music), Steve Howe (voted "Best Overall Guitarist" for 5 years (1977-1981) in a row by Guitar Player magazine and perhaps the best technical guitarist ever), Chris Squire (Bassist who is widely acknowledged to be one of the best ever and is known for, among other things, playing the bass as a lead instrument instead of just a supporting one), and the singer, Jon Anderson.

Don't get me wrong. Rush is very talented and are my second favorite band. Alex Lifeson's guitars are, at times, quite fantastic. Neil Peart's drums and lyrics are Great (Neil is perhaps the only percussionist I'd prefer over Bill Bruford or Alan White), and Geddy Lee's Bass playing has gotten steadily better but he's no Chris Squire.

Lynyrd Skynyrd wasn't inducted till 2006.. Allman Brothers was inducted in 1995.. some they seem to just wait a while on.. Stevie should have been in a while ago I agree... but at least they weren't like the Hollywood Walk of fame and already inducted Roy Orbison in 1987, He didn't get a Star on the walk of fame until February of this year...

ABBA and Blondie got inducted before many others that should have been in already..

Ill give you everything but Kiss. Well I guess if you judge them by how many bands they influenced then maybe. Musicly I was never terribly impressed with Kiss. They just dont have alot that did it for me. Yes Ace had some smoking solos but I feel his peers were better.

    My list.

    Iron Maiden.

Iron Maiden is arguably the most influential band in Heavy Metal. Their rise within the NWOBHM scene in the late 70s and world domination in the 80s through today is legendary. The twin lead and harmony work of Dave Murray,Adrian Smith, and later Yennick Geres has inspired thousands of bands, and sub genres within the metal community. The metal scene today would not sound the way it does without their innovation. They have released some of the most menorible albums in metal and hard rock's history.

Number Of The Beast is a Classic. The twin harmonies, soaring vocals of then new vocalist Bruce ****enson, Basswork of Steve Machinegun Harris, and stellar drum work, has created songs that stand the test of time. Hallowed Be Thy Name is still a crowd favorite almost 30 years later.

Maiden continues to tour and release new music, and show the young bucks how its done.

Bands that claim major influence from Iron Maiden,
Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Testament, Carcass, Inflames, Death, Dream Theater, to name a famous few.

    songs
    Hallowed Be Thy Name
    Fear Of The Dark
    Infinite Dreams
    Wrathchild
    2 Minutes To Midnight
    Run To The Hills
    The Longest Day
    Brave New World
    Afraid to shoot strangers

    Alice In Chains

Alice In Chains were far ahead of their time when grunge broke ground. They combined gritty almost heavy metal riffs, in your face dual vocals and an undeniable groove. Dirt is a masterpiece. An album where every track is top notch. Jerry Cantrell's riffs and tastefull solos ignitedhis combined vocal attack with Layne Stanley, and created a sound constantly imitated but never mastered. So much of todays rock scene owes Alice In Chains some respect for their influence on thier sound. They also pulled through the loss of Layne, who was such an integral part of their sound, to release a succsessful new album. They deserve their place.

    Songs

    Dam that river
    Heaven beside you
    Down in a hole
    Would
    No Excuses
    Black Gives Way To Blue
    Bleed the freak
    Nutshell
Toons are in a constant state of flux. Khyber server.
