i like using dispel magic on my guildies in lava areas.
It'll dispel stuff
no control over what though

there are a few ways to remove it,to name 2,
dispel an gtr dispel.Bards n clerics have a few to.
But the down side is,when it is cast,it will remove
all other buffs as well,not just the ones you want.
Its a gamble.

On my non-casters I usually keep the Grotto ring just so I feel like I contributed during the buffing phase.

I'm presuming this was done to you by someone in one of the public city areas. In which case, the buff will be removed as soon as you enter any instance/dungeon. Not sure about adventure areas...perhaps all it would take is step through the door into Searing Heights or Cerulean Hills for a bit.
