It was our brackish water tank filter burned out, caught the surge protector on fire, and threatened the chameleon 's home. We JUST got the big one on monday.

Pufferfish are in that tank.

I'm a Goldfish fan. not the crackers. I love black moors. But living in Hawai'i, my alage growth is too much for the Goldfish. Or me to keep up with.

Also your Jack looks great. Nice Dorsal Fin pattern (shows that he has not been in a tank that was too small for him). Also his color is astonishing. When you feed him do vertical lines appear on him? Sometimes they do that when they go into "aggressive mode". Oh, if you want to "treat" him, toss some snails into the tanks...he will eat them...and sometimes you can even hear the crushing sound outside of the tank.

It's slug and snail season here in Hawai'i. The Jack came with the tank. He's about 7 years old as far as we can tell. My hubby is about to go back to the boat, and he had been taken care of the tank for 4 years. It was neglected. THe command was going to toss the the tank when my hubby left (cuz noone wanted to care for it) and offered the fish to us. We had a 55 gallon but I said that was too small for him. So the command gave us the the tank too! Outside a few scratches on the side and light termite damage on the stand (which I fixed and stained nad sealed the wood) it was good tank.

We have admired the JD for years, and arethrilled to have him. We plan on taking him to our next duty station in 4 years.

We'll try the bloodworms.

If you are really interested in keeping that JD happy, set up a breeding tank for Comets. Just a little 29 gallon blank slate will suffice. As far as I can tell, all cichlids love eating comets. My oscar would go nuts for them, and my pacu actually cracked the tank he was in chasing one down...gotta love it when a 20 lb fish faceplants into the side of his tank...

When my oscars were hungry Id feed em crayfish. Shellfish delicacy They would be gone before they could hit the bottom of the tank usually. Just a tip of a pincher sticking out the mouth.

The largest Ive had is a 65 due to weight. So at one point i had 5 aqauriums spread all over the house Jack dempseys are a neat fish.
Very cool you got all this for free and want to care for this old man.
One thing is for sure, you cant beat hawaii for the best fish keeping stores, clubs, and organizations. I would love to go there again to see what they have in fresh and salt.
But my friend just invited me back to hawaii, so maybe I can get there.

Bah. We get the full range of natural disasters. THey are overrated. Though the vog days can be pretty bad. Not being on the same island with the Volcano helps.

If you gunna be live next to a Volcano, it might as well be erupting all thetime.

As for Tsumanis--time to BBQ some Huli Huli on H3. Ohau block party.
