I liked the DDO Lottery better the first time, when it was called Dragontouched Armor :-)
... but I'm too dim to find the widget.

You will find that there will be some lotteries that occur very regularly, some that arise around holidays or events, and then there will be times where smaller lotteries will just spontaneously appear like a ninja, so watch that widget or keep your ear to the ground if you hear your friends talking about a lotto they entered that you didn't see yet!Originally Posted by dragonruler
Correct, it looks for winners on all the servers (and there may be a few times where we do have server-specific lottos, such as if there is a particular date or occassion that is associated with the name of a server).Originally Posted by dragonruler
If you can't find the widget automatically, you can also add it to your page by hand! Just log into my.ddo and click "my admin". Then on the left side click "appearance" and chose "widgets". You'll see a list of boxes, which are all the parts that show up on your my.ddo page. If the one that says "Lottery" has the word "add" next to it, click "add" and it will put it on your page. Then all you need to do is click the link in the upper left to go back to your page and find it! By default it's on the left side, and you may have to scroll down if it's not at the very top left.Originally Posted by Docrailgun
Which just proves LOTRO's superiority over DDO, the team of this game has to steal ideas and technology from the LOTRO team. Great job, proving yet again that you will never be better then your LOTRO counterpart, which includes the Dev team over there, those guys and gals who originally created DDO.

It's sure a good thing we stole LotRO's F2P model and point based store tech. That was cited in most of the Warner buyout announcements as to why how Turbine can help Warner - store-tech into everything.
DDO came first - LotRO stole Graal *shakes fist*. The engine has been shared by both for quite a while even if LotRO uses it as a WoW-Clone play style and DDO went more Quake-clone movement matters style.
Don't get your apron in a bunch yet. Soon both DDO and LotRO will be the little forgotten tech-hand-me-down-sisters once Turbine announces the Harry-Potter MMO. Last I saw their "console-MMO" (PS3 first) is planned for 2011. So expecting an announcement sometime in 2010.

Personally, I'd rather they add something like this to testing before they finish the MyDDO beta. I really don't want to have something fixed/finished then screwed up again because they started testing something new on it right after they declared it finished and ready to go.
I still remember when that used to happen after the updates back in 2007/08. Since some of the fixes to the game happened after they started testing stuff on Risia, often at least a few of the fixes would disappear after the content went live. Then a few hot-fixes later things they had fixed were fixed again. It was kinda like taking a step forward, taking a half step back, then stepping forward again and a couple steps to the side.
*as to the character list in the lotto, I think I figured out why some of mine are out of order. By the look of things, the characters are listed in groups by server alphabetically. But, the toons that were created after purchasing extra slots appear to be listed below the sorted/organized by-server list in the order they were created no matter which server it was.
Did anyone get a drawing other then the tasty ham one?

Once the full-blown lottery gets going, some of the nay-sayers will come around. The LOTRO lottery gives some high-end, end-game collectibles. The DDO lottery could offer items such as shroud raid crafting components for your green steel items/weapons. Pretty much everyone would welcome that.
"Sleep? Who needs sleep? You can sleep when you're dead."
This was a pretty good idea.
one of the reasons i left DDO about a and a half year ago was because i was in a situation where i had no guild, no in-game friends, and **** gear. as a matter of fact, the only reason i came back was because an rl friend started playing.
the lotto would be able to keep players such as i WAS going because there is always i chance at getting a super cool weapon or something.
it wouldn't surprise me if the (hint, hint) improved the win rate for accounts that have been off for a while (hint, hint)
or (cough) upped it for accounts with all low levels and make everything bind to account (cough)
It would be more interesting if the two characters listed in MyDDO were even mine. None of the 4 toons I have (nor the ones who have already passed on their next life) are shown, nor ever have been. *shrug*
That said, it'd be cool if lottery items were set to a little above the character's current level. I think that would perhaps give some players who might otherwise be thinking about going off to play something else a bit of extra incentive to continue. For example, a level 6 or 7 ranger might get something like a (bound to account) bow of air.
