Happy May Day to you as well! Freyja Blot this year was the best ever. ( 3 gallons of home-brew mead was consumed by 9 people..yeah, heh)

The rituals were fun as always, but the mead and muscadine wine was awesome.

Then what you had was most likely not home-brewed. There aren't many commercially made Meads, but they have to a one sucked. If the Mead was home-brewed then it was over-yeasted ( i say this cause the most common reaction I've gotten from people who say they dislike mead, in my over 30 years of home-brewing, was saying it had an astrigent quality...and that only comes from over-yeasting) Well made mead has a smooth, almost buttery finish and a crisp, sweet taste.

Agreed. A buddy of mine runs Magpie Mead, does all his own brewing, and nothing that Chaucer's or Odin's or any of the other big-name brands put out come close to the quality.

'big name' meads? Man, I wish I lived in the states. Here you can't get the stuff for love nor money and it was invented here. More or less.

In the UK, I can recommend Moniak Mead and Lindisfarne... and that's it. Most of the other stuff mings like a marmite enema.

For those that are in the UK and want mead, I can heartily recommend Moniak breweries who also do some stunning fruit wines.
