This happens on Vista and 7 it is an issue with Aero. No workable solution as of yet just log in again.

So this is an issue with a part of Vista I don't use??? Maybe the problem is that I'm NOT using Aero?

In case you can't tell, I am also having this problem. The game starts on the second try.

I just noticed I have this problem in LoTRO as well, only I don't remember having it before! I haven't played LoTRO regularly for about a year, but think I would remember something this annoying. When I tried logging in yesterday it happened. Is this a new problem? Within the last year perhaps?

When the game tries to start, I notice the program's "button" on the taskbar flash orange before it disappears. Is there a way to find out what that error flash is?

If I had to guess what the problem is, I'd say it has to do with something not happening in time and/or the game not waiting long enough for that something to occur? If it was a "hard" error I would think the game wouldn't start at all. Since the game does start on the second try, it's like whatever the game wanted to happen has finally happened. Memory allocation? Resource loading?...

I'm going to try a few things and see what happens. I'll update with results.
    1. start game windowed. after system reboot.
UPDATE: Starts fine in widowed mode. Is the game not waiting long enough for the full screen to start? Remembering to switch to windowed mode, before exiting is a work-around though. Potentially as annoying as starting twice. :P

I'm done with this experiment. Since these Turbine games are the only programs/games having this problem, the ball is in Turbine's court, IMO.
