Default Splash of Fighter, Monk or more Rogue into a Rgr6/Rog1?

Hey guys! I know that there have been similar threads to this one in the past, I have read a couple of them. However, I would like to get the communities' current thinking and advice on something.

I have a Rgr6/Rog1 Elf Tempest that is 1 rank away from level 8. I was thinking of splashing in 1 level of either Fighter or Monk, and endgame be 18/1/1 - I can't see any gain at Rgr lvl 19 that looks better than taking another level in another class.

I have thought of the following: 1) add a second level of Rogue, 2) add Fighter lvl 1 or 3) add Monk lvl 1.

With Rogue I get more skill points and I get evasion earlier.
With Fighter I get attack bonus +1, hit d10, two feats (with Ftr. bonus feat) and use of all armor.
With Monk I get +1 to saves, 1 feat and Wisdom bonus to AC if not wearing armor (current wisdom is 18 enhanced).

Well, there is most of my thinking on the matter, what do you guys think?

Tihocan's new Tempest path is 18/1/1 Rng/Rge/Ftr. It has the fighter level at 6th but it may give you a few ideas. I don't really see a reason to go rogue at 8th. Except for a few extra skill points and evasion that Ranger will give you before long. 1 level of Monk is great for an AC build but that takes a lot of grinding. I think that fighter with the +1 BAB and feat are the way to go.

Thanks for the advice and the link, it's really helped. I am leaning toward the Fighter level currently.

I think get at 9-11 Ranger levels before you add your next class. It sounds like you are going for something close to this build http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php...ight=exploiter

Either Fighter or Monk works though honestly. I would just want to get the good stuff from both before adding another class.

9 Ranger gets you Evasion. 11 Ranger gets you Greater Two Weapon fighting.

Looks like you have the gist of both splashes, though ftr 1 only gets you 1 bonus feat, not two. The Exploiter is pretty popular, but you need high DEX & WIS and Combat Expertise (plus beaucoup equipment of course) to really hit high AC.

    Thanks for the advice guys.

I am wanting to take the toughness feat, which I haven't yet due to getting Tempest 1 and the required feats. Only with monk 1 do I get toughness as a choice. I want this feat so that I can take racial toughness and more hp.

I was thinking maybe taking fighter 1 and taking OTWF as a feat and then maybe spending a later ranger feat on toughness - can I choose toughness as a feat at Rgr 10?

Right now it looks like Monk 1 though; which means I'll soon be fighting in robes - or maybe wearing some "outfit" to get the wisdom bonus to AC as well.

If you're going for a fighter splash, I recommend waiting until lvl 9 to take it: that way you can use your fighter feat to take Improved Crit (requires BAB 8 which you won't hit until lvl 9) and take Toughness as your lvl 9 feat.

That's interesting, I would like to have both feats, I guess you are saying I could choose Improved Crit as my fighter feat and get Toughness as my level 9 feat available to everyone.

My (main) conundrum is whether or not I can take Toughness as a later ranger feat - I can't tell from the Rgr tables in the wiki or compendium - they don't show the feats you can choose from for ranger - and I don't know what is available at later Rgr levels.

    Thoughts anyone?

Rangers don't get to choose any feats apart from FEs; the rest are fixed.

Sorry about that, I'm being confusing - the Ranger feats are FE, I was confused and meant to ask about regular feats every 3 levels.

What I meant to say or ask was is toughness a level-limited feat, like some feats, where at 9 or 12 or 15 or whatever, I can't take it?

Edit: but I think I'm taking level 8 as Rgr and then lvl 9 as Ftr.

I'll see what I can take for feats then.

Yes, you can take Toughness as one of your regular feats. It is also a monk bonus feat.
