    Default 30 point build 18/2 drow rogue/monk

Here is the build that I am thinking of reincarnating my exploiter ranger into in order to get better DPS through sneak attack, and maintain a high AC. I will have the past life ranger for the free barkskin, one of the only things that an 18/2 usually lacks in its final solo-buff build.

    looks good!

my experience with the acrobat II enhancement was pretty short lived. but doesnt it negate the need to put ranks into balance? i've always figured that with acrobat II you can dump the balance skill.

Mostly yes, but there are times that it comes in handy - like Titan raid, Weapons Shipment, or before you have Acrobat II..

    cool, did not know that.

well then, if i were rolling this i'd dump balance . and beef up that tumble, or something else that would be used more often.

It pains me to say this, but the way they have created epic, AC adds little to no value in end game epic content, and there is only more to come.

Why go dex and AC instead of strength? Unless of course you are not planning on runnng epic stuff.

    A couple reasons:

First and foremost, I already have most of the best AC equipment in the game - chat ring, Icy, 8 armor bracers, +4 insight weapon. I won't let all that hard work go to waste.

Second I realize that AC is pretty much useless on epic but it is still highly valuable in Amrath, even on elite. With a high enough AC, intim, and knockdown immunity I will be very useful on any non-epic quest.

I run epic on my sorc, and she'll be my main epic farmer. I plan on using this guy for ingredient farming, and there's always the hope that AC will become relevant again someday. It seems to go through cycles of being relevant or not, so will most likely come around again. I am also leveling up a barb for max DPS so no matter what a group needs I can do it.

Makes sense I guess, I also am hopeful that they make AC valuable on epic content at some point; current epic is very one dimensional. That said, not sure I would invest the time in the long TR road on a character I didn't plan to run in end game stuff.

If you do plan to just run the character in elite, I'd think that assasin 3 would be a lot more useful to a group than acrobat, especially with the changes to air eles.

Now what you could do, which is my plan for two ac builds I have, is to run to 20 going AC, then LR to str based at 20.

IMHO, if you're not going for an Assassin build with high INT (16), halflings make better rogues than drow: higher CON gives them a little more survivability; and SA & flanking bonuses give them a bit more DPS. Though drows do have a bit of a DPS advantage against SA-immune mobs with their higher STR & rapier bonuses.

Also, I would consider dropping monk 2 to grab rogue 19 for the extra d6 SA and bonus feat. So the feats I would take on a rogue 19 / monk 1 are Past Life (1), TWF (1), Finesse (3), Toughness (3), Past Life (6), ITWF (9), Imp Crit (12), GTWF (15), CE (18) plus your bonus rogue feats. If you do keep monk 2, I would take Power Attack instead of Dodge; alternatively, take fighter 1 for martial weapons + 12 HPs.

Because this game is overflowing with air elementals...

I heavily considered the halfling but the STR penalty made me have to spend 35 points to get everything that I wanted on a 34 point build. I wanted the flexibility to take power attack at endgame if I wanted, I would drop that dodge feat for it. I didn't consider the fighter level, thanks for the suggestion since it would only be a drop of 2 skill points for all martial weapons AND more HP, although I don't see how it's 12 more than a monk.
