    Default Connection Drops when game loads up

    I'm having a problem where my connection is completely killed after I create a character and "enter" the world.

    when the game loads up I'm in a beach and there's an NPC standing there (some rogue) and I can't move or do anything, I checked the latency box and noticed that I'm not receiving any packets.

    it says "Recv: 0.0 bps"

    It only happens on this one PC, my laptop works fine under the same network!

    I have disabled my firewall and antivirus and it still does it.

    When I connect the laptop then connect with the PC, the connection drops for everyone in my LAN

    I have an nforce4 motherboard, which I've read has issues with the game, but I have installed the latest drivers that are supposed to fix it. Also unisntaleld and installed net 1.1

    I disconnected my Ethernet and tethered my phone to get internet access, but I don't receive any packets after the game loads up int he beach starting area

    Any idea what's going on?

    I usually get a lot of lag when starting a new character too (about the first 30 seconds are me standing freeze-frame while everything loads) You might want to try going into options and lowering the sight distance that renders objects at a distance. Possibly lower the graphics settings. What graphics card are you using?

    Also, if its lagging, your latency box is sometimes affected too (I've seen this in other MMO's).

    So connecting your pc to the network brings the whole thing down? Try pinging 127.0.0.1 on that pc to test the network stack and the loopback address. That can tell you if the NIC is bad. (edit) lost packets with that are bad, as they aren't really leaving your PC. After that, try pinging outward on your network. First your router, then your modem (usually 192.168.100.1 for the modem) and then a web site like Yahoo.

    Also, hit it with a spy ware sweeper like Spybot: Search and Destroy.

    The problem is never how to get new, innovative thoughts into your mind, but how to get old ones out. Every mind is a building filled with archaic furniture. Clean out a corner of your mind and creativity will instantly fill it.

    I have 0% Loss of packets in everything

    but when the game loads up in the beach area, I never receive ANY packets

    "RECV: 0.0 BPS"

    then my whole network is crippled......

    Like I said, my laptop sitting next to the desktop works fine! I'm trying to have 2 people play at the same time

    It connects fine, and it is not a slow hardware issue, I have a geforce 7950 GT

    It connects to the server fine, but when actually get IN THE GAME, it just drops my connection

    I tried connecting without using the Ethernet on my motherboard, I connected with my phone instead and everything is fine, until I get int he game and it just instantly gets RECV: 0.0 bps

    just installed a wireless card to my pc to see if it was the nforce ethernet creating toruble

    but even with the wireless card, I get RECV: 0.0 bps and it shuts down my LAN

    By two people, you mean two separate accounts, right? As in two different login's and passwords?

    What rez did you download for the game? I tried using the high Rez version on my 7950 GO's (SLI) and the game is unplayable. It is basically frozen when i get to jeets, though it was so long ago I dont think I checked the send/receive.

    I decided to try something out

    I disconnected my HDD, put another in and installed win 7 on that one

    put the game files in and I can play the game with no problems

    What gives?

    So we now know its not hardware problem, but what in XP is blocking the connection? Like I said, I disabled everything (firewall, set computer as dmz etc)

    Lightbulb

    I had the same problem and after spending a couple hours skulking the forums and troubleshooting I finally got it working. First I checked dndclient.txt to see what the deelz be. I had something that looked like this:

    000000000.000: Initializing display with title 'Dungeons and Dragons Online'...

    insert "Things are peachy" up to:

    218740683.398: SmartBox::Render: calling ECM_Physics::SendNotice_NextFrameDrawn.
    218740781.505: Connection to server lost - server died (immediately upon login)
    218740784.702: Device_WIN32::Cleanup: called.
    218740784.702: RenderD3D::Shutdown: called.
    218740784.702: RenderD3D::End: called.
    218740784.702: RenderD3D::End: called.

    So I tried the following... I'll put the things that didn't work for me here too because you never know, maybe it'll help:

    1) Make sure DDO is not blocked by windows firewall. (Didn't solve)
    2) Make sure there are no other firewalls running... check your processes and look for any firewalls you may not be aware of... for instance I had fws.exe running which is a firewall supplied by ATT... sneaky buggers that they are. (Didn't solve)
    3) Manually open ports 9000-9010 TCP/UDP and 2900-2913 TCP/UDP on your firewall. (Didn't solve)
    4) Disable Windows Firewall. (No luck)
    5) Disable Anti-virus programs. (Nope)
    6) Disable anything you even SUSPECT messes with incoming connections. (Nuthin)

    The next three things I did before I ran DDO again... and they were all last ditch attempts before I just uninstalled the thing and waited until I got a computer that wasn't 10 years old.

    7) Open in game options, select troubleshooting and lower your Engine speed and Connection speed to the lowest possible settings... Quickly, before the game shuts down again.
    8) Add Exception for UPnP on firewall. (shot in the dark)
    9) Add Exception for Turbineinvoker.exe, Turbinelauncher.exe, DnDlauncher.exe.

    After I did those three things I logged in, waited for it to load and was surprised to find I'd somehow stumbled onto a solution. Alas, I still cannot play because my onboard graphics card was made around the time when Starcraft was "cutting edge graphics"... But I thought I'd share the steps I took to fix this issue anyways... hope it helps.
