    Default Diplomacy and End Rewards

So I thought the only use for Diplomacy was to redirect aggro and open the occasional conversation option. But lately, I have been running into people who mention stuff about using Diplomacy to get better end rewards or better chest rewards. This sounds a whole lot like a cow level to me, but I figured I would ask here on the forums, as opposed to the advice channel in which misinformation spreads like a wildfire. Can you use Diplomacy to get better loot? If so, how?

Default Diploing chests for better loot is a myth

it is not true....diploing the quest giver to get better end rewards......also a myth, does not do anything.

Although, just like most/all urban legends, you will run into a lot of folks who swear they get better loot by this method, they are just lucky/selective in the memory of the sucky loot they also pull.

    Default In short

No. Diplo doesn't impact chests or end rewards.

Apparently, in the dawn of the game, Diplomacy did work on chests (and maybe other stuff--"Please ma'am, would you drop your drawers for me?") but that hasn't been the case for a loooong time. Someone is pulling your chain, or is an idiot.

    Quit trying to confuse people.

Everyone knows you have a Cleric or Paladin cast Prayer while standing next to the chest.

No, no, your both wrong. You need a rogue to sneak open the chest.

Besides, there was a cow lvl. It was mootiful too.

I heard the same. It was a bug and they fixed it. But I can't find anything in the patch notes about it so maybe not?

Your lack of faith is... disturbing

It never worked....it just made the sound effect and motion then used for diplo. So since it let you do the diplo action, people assumed that meant it did something, but it didn't. (sort of like shooting at the wagon outside the shroud makes the sound/colour effect but doesn't actually harm the wagon)

OP, check my sig for the official word from the devs on influencing loot.

I do seem to only ever get anything worthwhile as a Cleric, however. No other class I've played has ever gotten anything good from any chest or quest giver. And even then, my cleric couldn't use any of it, it was all good stuff for other classes. v.v

Agreed, I'm pretty sure this was a newb taunting joke that took on a life of it's own, like pulling the lever in TS for extra loot. I remeber as far back as fall of 06 people telling newbs this or other such nonsense and laughing as the ran up to every chest and dipoled, or bluffed...etc.
