    generally listen to:

    Nightwish (awesome)
    Iron Maiden (the great classic)
    Kamelot (great band)
Epica (more classical & mental blend, but good stuff)
Sonata Arctica (nice fast pace to some of their stuff)
    Korpiklaani (viking drinking metal!)
Steel Panther (lyrics unsuitable for...anyone really, but they're hilariously juvenile)
Dragonforce (if you can kill as fast as they shred... it means you're basically a blender)
    Amon Amarth (more vikings)
System of a down (if i stop mid-quest and just /dance its cos Toxicity has started playing)
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was, now what's it is weird and scary to me.

Default Metal only = Pre 2000's. Yar?

These are the metal bands that I can "zerg" to.

    At The Throne of Judgment
    Conducting From The Grave
    The Faceless
    I Killed The Prom Queen
    Sea of Treachery
    War of Ages
    Winds of Plague
    With Blood Comes Cleansing
    Woe Of Tyrants
    The Word Alive

New music can be good too.

Dope, Suicidal Tendencies, Pantera, Disturbed, AC/DC, Danzig, Dayglo Abortions, Godsmack, Judas Priest, Led Zeppelin, Megadeath, Ministry, a few Slayer songs, and the obvious choice of Metallica. Old Metallica, as in pre-black album Metallica. As soon as the self titled black album came out they got radio play and sold out to "the man". Gimme Kill 'em All, Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightning, etc, THAT was metal, not the **** they play now.

    Whiskey in ajar-O? Seriously?

Ran all of Necro the other nite for favor, queued up all of Opeth, and it was good!

EDIT: OMG! can't believe I forgot Blind Guardian! Especially Nightfall in Middle-Earth

Have you checked out the Charred Walls of The Damned stuff yet? Its a project with Tim Ripper Owens, Steve DiGeorgio, Jason Sucoff and Rich Christy. Its an amazing disk.
The new DB is really good, they upped the technicality, still brutal.
I have not checked out Charred walls yet, thanks for the tip, Digeorgio is one of my favorite bassists.

Charred is half of Control Denied. Jason is a very talented guitarist and Tim lets his range loose. Im sure if Chuck was still around he would make a disk with Ripper.

I like alot of newer bands. Into Eternity, Divinity,Mercenary,Devolved,Divine Heresy,Agalloch,Flatline.... Im just not terribly into Deathcore. To me the breakdowns just become very repetitive and over used.

Yeah, once that band ran out of Cliff Burton music, the sucking began. You can tell exactly when it happened too.

The only Metallica i've bought since the black album, which ruined them for me, was garage inc. used. cd2 is classic
Control Denied was going to be huge, one of my favorite music vids is Death, Live in Eindhoven
I'm into all kinds of thrash and death metal. Blues and classic rock are big favorites. I'm not into R&b, rap, or country. With a few exceptions, i'll add.
For instance, the new Heathen album is really good, reunited after many years like Testament and Forbidden, and can lay out some breakdowns that make the mall-metal deathcore kids cry

oh yeah metal reigns supreme !
thank you. all of you you have reminded me of some old forgotten favorites(kamelot mötorhead / ac/dc hells bells among others ) and shown me some new bands =) youtube one of the 8499 wonders of the personal computer era! scotty beam me up plox ! hehe

but id like to change the subject for a while .
what metal cover was / has been better then the original according to you ?

    according to me its currently
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lD2NuB6OLf4 - alice cooper - poison (i looooove this song and ive listened to it forever it never gets old [unlike ac/dc thunder struck loved it, hated it, loved it, hated it ] poison never goes outa style ! )
but for a few months ago i heard this cover
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLq7ePSqFu4 - by tarja from nightwish (video is **** i know but w

ho watches em while playing anyway ?)
iono why and i feel kinda dirty for sleezing into a cover of such a classic but i really do think it sounds better while she sings it ..

now like in the best twisted sister scenario are there some metal songs out there that just would sound better with a girl singing it ? like for example ... guns n roses - paradise city ? more enticing maby ?

edit : oh btw i noticed stratovarius only 2 times besides my own post =) so i tought id linke my favorite song by them . the teamwork in the guitars and the synth together with the drums and the lyrics ... its awsome , you can dream away into the song so easly its almost like a fantasy perfect ddo tune
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNLdT...ext=1&index=28

and for kicks . speed of light

    Default my 666 cents

Necropolis + Dark funeral(or any blackmetal for that matter) = Atmosphericly enlightened gameplay.

    That is all.
Xeper, Ellistraee, Arcaenium, Adaddon, Whitesonja...etc Warriors of the Arcane Flame = Champions of Faerun = Undying Legions. I'll see you around.

personally, ive been extremely dissapointed in metal for the past couple of years... and oddly enough, some of the new hip hop coming out has floored me (sole/skyrider band, sol.illaquists, etc)

though the new high on fire impressed me, especially seeing as how i thought their last one was coma inducing, haha.

i suppose the newest gorod isnt "bad" either.. it all started going downhill for me when psycroptic lost chalk as their vocalist. doesnt really seem related to the whole scene, but thats the correct timing at least.

though i suppose i havent looked to see if necrophagist released a newer one... that might interest me.

    Default Not death metal but...

I really enjoy/appreciate Bullet for my Valentine. The new album just came out this week too and it is very good. Check 'em out if you haven't already. They are quite a bit more melodic than most of the other bands mentioned in this thread but metal nonetheless. Just listening to the drummer double kick the bass makes my legs cramp.
