Meh - it has the looks, no doubt.

Might do better if they re-name it to Clone Wars Online, has that kinda 'vibe' or look to me.

All the cowbell in the world will do no good for a WoW-like combat system.

I'll watch how it progresses, but have no intent of playing - I will re-live fond memories of pre-PUB9 SWG.

KOTOR style point&click. Generic point&click, select target + hit auto-attack + on cooldown activate special powers with added super cool animations that do nothing. Point&click with cool fluff. Bioware-style combat.

When will then add DDO style combat? NEVER.
You'd be surprised, but many, many MMO players do NOT like active combat. Yes, a small shock, but most MMO player prefer point&click. People like point&click, not active WASD.

I was shocked when i asked some of my RL friends why they don't play DDO. Answer was: don't like this combat, GW/WOW style is more my-style.
    They said: I can't hit that kobold!@#@!
Me: you have to move, use WASD+mouse. Kobolds jump alot
They: this sucks ... <delete> ... goes back to GW/WoW.

just another generic mmo in a slightly different setting.

one thing that troubles me is that there is obviously no (as in zero) mob ai. thats especially bad as 6 of the 8 classes seem to be primary ranged combattants. so you walk up to a group (3 or more) enemies and start shooting. if theyre ranged also they freeze in position and shoot back. no cover or anything used (just the force shield thingy some classes have). no spread out so you don't get blasted by a single grenade. nothing. this is really lame for a 2010 computergame.

Which is why every time my WoW-playing friends pull the "our game is more popular than yours" card, I just point out that popularity does not equal quality, and that lots of people can share poor taste.

I'm still not giving up on it. I mean, the choreographed combat does look pretty. I'm hoping that its alot more active than it looks, but not going to really get my hopes up on that.

What i really wish for is a godo mix, of nice timered abilities, that you can really rock out with some finesse, along with the active(or at least Semiactive) light saber swings/gun shots/grenade throws.

I have alot of faith in Bioware to make a quality game, and i'll certainly be getting in as soon as open beta is announced.......I'll let you guys know then..if the time ever fricking gets here.

I've had a sinking feeling about the combat in SWOR since I saw it at PAX here in Seattle last year. It was the largest game to present a live demo in the main theater, and I made sure I was there. And man, did I want to be blown away by this one - because Bioware can rock a Star Wars game like none other. To say it was mediocre would be kind.

I think the storylines will be awesome.
I think it will look utterly fantastic.
I think the NPC/Player interaction will set new standards.

...and I think none of that will matter because the combat will be sleep-inducing.

Like I've said before I'm going to reserve judgment until after I get to play it. DDO had some very unsavory changes made to it in its inception that really rattled some people (namely increased twitching capabilities, lack of turns/rounds and the whole spell point thing). In the end these changes were seen to be very beneficial to the game.

Every players experience will differ, so you can expect many different reactions as a result. I think combat is very important, but for me in an MMO, character development is also very important. I want to see how various classes and characters can progress and be customized, and just how powerful they can become in regards to enemies and other characters.

My friends are all uber-excited about it, and keep trying to get me to say that I'll play it with them when it hits, but I've been saying for a year or more now that I will wait and see what the combat is like, and that if it is the same craptacular snoozefest that typifies that of other MMOs, I'd take a pass. They all like that ****.Sat me down to try Warhammer Online or something WoW-like but focused on siege battles, and I was bored to tears trying to complete the first set of encounters.

The first thing I noticed about the combat was that nobody was moving - at all. Most of the fights appear to have combatants in a triangle....standing and just eating every shot that an opponent throws their way.
Maybe I've been spoiled by playing this game but that is not engaging combat. That's the sort of combat I remember playing on GW, but at least it looks really pretty.

My prediction is the Star Wars MMO will be the biggest disappointment of whatever year it comes out. It'll look great and sound great but otherwise suck.

I'm not betting against Bioware...ever read how the company was founded. These guys are gamers to the core. They were Doctors who wrote games on the side and eventually quite being doctors to write games full time. They haven't failed yet to deliver. I would except combat to be more Mass Effect 2 than Neverwinter Nights but either way it doesn't have to be the same as DDO to be good. Some nights I like steak and some I like chicken.

Sometimes the majority only means that all the fools are on the same side=SW:ToR hype.

If DDO get´s shut down, i for one is going bk to the FPS servers and doing some real combat instead of that wowish BS.
It has the looks but the combat looks crappy, thou i wont judge it untill i have played beta or tried a free trail.

hehe, i'm one of the few that's doesn't care about it at all
when i first saw the trailer for it, i'll admit it LOOKS fancy and stuff
however, i could pretty much tell the combat wouldn't be active the way i like it. it's going to be one of those lock-on, beat on them until one dies sort of style instead of free-roam combat
that's a big turn off for me, it's one of the reason why i don't play turn-based games anymore
face it, WoW is a turn-based game. with a fancy skin
PS: Greensteel RUINED the game! and you all know it!
    less buffing, more nerfing!!!
to make it easier for those of you that wants to avoid me in game, all my characters are in "Bladesworn Mercenaries"
