    Default Help me build a...build

I haven't played in forever. I had a gimped ranger back in...2006, so needless to say, I don't know this game anymore.

What I'm looking for is a sneak attack max DPS rogue, 32 point build. and obviously trap/UMD and that sort of thing.

The main questions I have are:

    1. What race/stats? I understand high dex, but how much str and con?

    2. What are tomes, and how attainable are they? I see they exist in the store, but seem to be like...20 bucks. Am I going to have to TR my character just to have the appropriate tomes for a decent build?

    3. Could use some guidance in terms of feats. TWF/ITWF/OTWF/GTWF. I got that. Power attack, improved critical: piercing, etc. I got that. But help me flesh it out a little.

    4. Would I be better off with something like 19 rog/1 war?

    Thanks in advance.

first go here and read ... follow the links for even more info about rogues.

brief note to answer most of your questions. Max DPS rogues are typically strength based, not Dex. You will want Dex at 15 so that a +2 dex tome will let you qualify for the ITWF and GTWF feats later on. Con starting at minimum 12 and Int minimum 10. If you want to be an assassin then I recommend maybe starting 14 Int. Pump the rest into Strength. If you have some odd points left over then some Cha is always welcomed.

Tomes can be looted or bought from the store, you can get them on the auction house as well. What you saw for $20 is the supreme tome which is +2 to all stats... you can get individual tomes for much less since you will only NEED a +2 dex.

The current capstone for rogues is generally disliked so most rogues go for 1 level of fighter to get an extra feat and some more HP plus free proficiencies with martial weapons. If this is the route you will take then I recommend taking fighter at level 2 to help with getting feats up front.

Race will very much be personal preference. Halfling gives enhancements for greater sneak attack damage, human gives an extra feat to make it easier to take Khopesh proficiency (Khopesh will be the weapon of choice if you want "MAX DPS"), Drow make good assassins with their stat bonuses and weapon enhancement lines. A warforged rogue with the Mechanic PrE can actually use skill boosts to repair himself. Dwarves are sturdy and get free dwarven axe prof if you take that level of fighter. Elf are also good for rogues, especially dex based rogues if you want to do a finesse build. (dex based finesse will not be MAX DPS though so decide what you really want).
"Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so."
