Default In Game Lag, since server move

    My symptoms are:

Every few minutes (5-15), my toon stops moving and my ability to move mouse around the screen becomes very poor. If I try to turn my character, the character usually turns in 120 or 180 degree increments, at slow intervals (even when I just tap for a turn). Using a skill or ability is also slow and only works occasionally. After 45 seconds to a minute and a half I regain control of my character.

Other players do not experience the lag when I do. The problem happens in and out of parties, in and out of dungeons, and in both busy and slow areas (i can be the only person in an area and still experience the lag issue).

The issue does not occur in other applications or online games (LOTRO, another Turbine Game).

My computer cpu useage does not shoot up during these episodes.

My packet loss does not increase or change in a noticeable fashion.

The problem began after the server move. Prior to that I had played game for over 2 years on the same computer with no issues like this ever before.

I have updated my graphics drivers repeatedly (I have an NVIDEA 8500)

I have tried adjusting various graphics settings with no change in the issue.

I have turned off antivirus with no change in issue.

I have rebooted my network repeatedly with no change in the issue.

I have a verizon dsl connection.

    1.5 mbps download
    0.15 upload
    Ping 74 ms

    My analysis is:

As near as I can tell the Server on Turbines end slows dramatically its communication to my computer every few minutes, then after 45 seconds to a min, begins responding again in a regular fashion. I have no idea why it is occurring. Based on forum posts I think it is happening to a few others.

The issue is making my gameplay experience extremely unsatisfactory.

I am located in Washington State

    My DXDiag.txt is as follows:

Give the steps here and the connection related ones here a run through but definitely open a support request if you haven't. It might not be directly related but your sound card drivers are over four years old and they may be a contributing factor. Definitely check with Creative support for the newest available.

    Default Response to issue

Thank you for your response. I had already reviewed and checked issues in the two posts you referenced as well as others. I had thoroughly searched the forums looking for a possible fix before I posted.

Although I doubt the issue is sound card related, I checked both dell and Creative for a new driver. The driver at Dell simply replaced the driver with itself (no newer driver) and none of the drivers at Creative recognized the soundcard in my system. I think the hardware is actually part of the motherboard in this particular computer.

I posted to make you at turbine aware that you may have some kind of network gremlin and to save other players the time I've already expended on the issue. The issue remains the same, the game slows down every 10-15 min for about 45 seconds. During that period the game is unplayable. I rechecked the in game ping, upload, and download rates during an event (by maneuvering the mouse pointer in steps over the icon) and then observing. The ping (125 ms), upload and download rates were reported throughout the event as essentially the same as after. Voice chat (ddo) is unaffected by the slowdown. The symptoms would tend to indicate something other than a client side problem. The computer itself shows no sign of issue (cpu rate does not increase, hard drive isn't spinning, etc) during the slowdowns.

If it were a client side issue, i would not expect voice chat to remain unaffected, and I would expect to see the problem in other applications such as lord of the rings, which when I tested did not show any of the same issues. I would note that LOTR is a newer, larger application, with more intense graphics and I would expect the issues to be more evident there rather than not at all if it was a client side issue.

I would love that you could solve my problem with a simple fix, but If it were simple, I would have solved it myself. I am not a computer neophyte.

If you have any other ideas I would welcome them. I would be happy to participate in some form of test so you could observe the problem from your end. If you are interested in that, let me know. You have my email address on file if you need to contact me.

    Further Update:
Ok so after testing sound driver update that wasnt an update, I wrote the post above. After which I went back to the game, and the game crashed upon launch attempt. I said no problem, shut up, rebooted and it crashed again. I said, no problem, adjusted the sound card acceleration settings and tried again and it crashed again. So I searched the internet for yet another sound card driver (my fourth) and found a creative driver at neither creative or dells website, and voila my sound card updated with a newer driver and an automatic driver updater program for creative was available as well. I took advantage of that creative tool too further update the sound card driver and voila got back into the game...only to have the same lag issue after 10 minutes of game play. I think we can safely eliminate the sound card issue...

for completion sake, here is the updated sound portion of my dxdiag file

The voice chat uses a completely different set of ports so if there's any port routing issues occurring on 9000 to 9013 the ingame voice chat (and standard in-game chat as well) is not always affected (uses ports 2900 to 2913).

I would defintely follow up with a support request if you haven't yet since troubleshooting connection issues can get alot more in-depth than can be done on the forums.

NOTE: The Customer Support forums are best for Player-to-Player help, for more direct and official support, please submit a ticket to the appropriate team via the form here.

After contacting support, log into your email webpage to add noreply@turbine.com and accountsupport@turbine.com to their "safe senders" list and your contacts list/address book. Be sure to check Spam/Junk Mail folders as well since most email providers do not let external email programs or cell phones download mail flagged this way.
