Default Scrolls, potions, and wands, oh my!

    Hello-

As a relatively new player to DDO, I have been enjoying the flexibility of a Paladin. But that leads to a problem...with UMD capability, I am carrying around all of these scrolls and wands that I never seem to use in the heat of battle. Since my role is usually more tank/melee, should I keep any of the offensive scrolls? (charm person, prism, etc.)? Should I just focus on keeping a small number of buffs, and forget the rest?

With all of the clickies, etc., it can be overwhelming.

Any hints on how you manage organizing and using your paladins (for melee) would be helpful.

    Thanks,

    Marc

Offensive scrolls and wands are pretty much useless. The DC is either very low, or they don't do enough damage to be worth it (since you won't have the enhancements a real caster has, and any level-based damage scaling will be minimal). Just hit 'em with your sword(s).

Heal scrolls are excellent to have around. As are raise dead scrolls. Teleport, True sight, Greater Heroism are nice, too. DDoor if you can find them; can't get them from vendors.

Generally, scrolls and wands are good for healing and buffs (particularly ones that don't need to scale with level to be useful). Not generally for attacking.

Pots serve a similar purpose as scrolls and wands, but are usually much more expensive, and can only be used on yourself. Worth keeping a few around, since they can't be interrupted as easily as scrolls and wands, and can be used underwater, but no need to keep a ton.

My Pali doesn't have UMD (not worth it on a pure Pali, IMHO), but on my Bard, I have Heal and Divine Power scrolls mapped to a modifier key+side mouse button combo, along with my other frequently used things like haste and rage. Other scrolls and wands just sit in a hotbar to be clicked as needed.

If you can get your umd high enough, stoneskin and shield wands are a god send. Protection from magic/force missiles is very nice and being able to stoneskin yourself or others if the need comes up is great as well.

What you want is buffs and heal, not offensive, so providing you can use them get scrolls of:
    Most usefull first.
    heal, raise dead, and teleport
stone skin, gh (if you dont have clickies), fire shield, blur.

Potions of remove curse, remove poison (esential), haste, rage (nice).
Wands, whatever usefull buffs you can get that last enough.

I bought a wand of Neutralize Poison at a vendor in House J. 50 charges of immunity/removal has lasted me something like 5 levels. Same thing with remove curse. Truthfully, I'm not certain of the savings because I've only used about 25 of the charges. The pots are around 800 gp a pop, right? 25 x 800 = 20000 gp. The wand is 5500 gp. I think I did alright, even if I'm way off on the price of the pots.

I'd do dirty work for a wand of fire shield. Mmmm...I can feel the damage numbers already...

well yes, wands are a little cheapier, for remove curse mainly i rather use potions, since you need to remove the curse asap, in general potions are faster and not much expensiever, of course if you are really tight on money then go wands when you can.
