So, with DSL, you often just have a modem, and your computer is "on the internet"
directly. That's good (few config issues) and bad (poor security), but it is different
than if you have a router.
For broadband, you usually have a router, and how it's configured determines how easy
it is for applications that access the Internet through non-standard ports to get
through. Since I've never heard of your broadband provider, it's possible that they
deliver a router that is locked down fairly hard.
