Help: DPS Tank or Tank Tank?

I am relatively new to DDO and have been playing with all the classes and races to get a solid feel for the game and to understand how a group should work. And for the most part this is easily a great effin' MMO. My only thing is, Tanking in this game is far different than most of the MMO's I am used to. And I am used to just being a meat shield when I Main Tank, but in this, or at least at the first half of levels, I have not really seen too many Sword and Board tanks. Namely TWF and THW being the tank and they do a pretty decent job at it 75% of the time.

My question is, what is preferred? A real Tank that deals little damage, but can hold aggro and manage some melee CC, or a DPS Tank who can intimitank and smash apart groups?

a DPS tank is preferred for most content

there are rare exceptions where a 'real tank's tank' can stand out. But those encounters are also nothing that cant be handled by a DPS tank as well.

its certainly possible to build a fighter thats capable of both roles. build wise its only a few feats. the rest of it will be primarily gear dependent. You would just end up grinding a set for AC tanking, and another for DPSing. Altho you can shield block with great effect as well, if you just keep your intimidate maxed. As its doubtful you would get a high enough AC to matter for those bosses where you would want to turtle up. (hard/elite horoth, and epic bosses)

I don't get what you mean by DPS tank and Tank Tank.

You say that a real tank holds the aggro and manages CC.

Then you say that the DPS tank holds aggro, manages CC and does damage.

Maybe I'm just reading this wrong.

And yea, I noticed that that didn't make much sense, I forgot to just mention DPS'ers may not mitigate as much damage (or avoid) than a Sword and Board would.
