    Default 12rgr/6pal/2ftr....or?

I am in the process of levelling up the above class mix.Fairly balanced stats with a bias to str, dwarven. I am just uncertain whether to go 14 ranger or 12 ranger/2 fighter. Anyone want to share their thoughts on weighing up the pros and cons? I am currently swaying towards 2 fighter due to the feats.

From 12 to 14 a ranger only gets access to favored damageIV, favored defense and resistance III, and extra action boost II. They get no class granted abilities or feats. None of those would be missed, except maybe favored damage.

Fighter 2 gives you 4 more hp, 2 feats, and access to Ftr Str I. for a dwarven rgr the str enhancemet may come in handy to even out your str score, and 2 feats are always a bonus for classes that don't get extras. Even if you can't figure out what to do with them, you can always take ftr class feats in those slots and substitute 2 toughness feats elsewhere.
    Ghallanda: Neatoelf15wiz/1rgr, Neetoelf17wiz, NeatoManhuman13rog/6pal/1mnk, NeatoHombrehuman12ftr/6pal/2rog, Kneetoedwarf17clr, Kneedoughdrow18clr/2mnk

Minimize expectations and you'll never be disappointed

from the ranger levels, as Krud stated above you'd lose out on a little extra damage vs. favoured enemies but forgot to mention the ability to cast a single level 4 spell (FoM, CSW, mass longstrider or summon natures ally 4)

Personally, i think fighter levels would be best - 2 extra feats are handy, especially considering the feat requirements for tempest (i'm assuming you're going with that), meaning you could also add in stunning blow & a dual weighted warhammer wielding tempest would b pretty dangerous (wheeee auto-crits!), and you can boost the DC of stunning blow a little further with the 1st tier of fighter enhancements for it. You'll also get tier 1 of haste boost for short periods of even better dps.

A third possibility would be 1 fighter level & a 7th paladin level, as the 7th pally level will get you access to extra toughness, aura & smite enhancements
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was, now what's it is weird and scary to me.

Thanks for that, just thought as well that instead of 2 fighter I would probably get benefit from 2 monk, have 12 base wisdom and have used a +2 tome.

I currently have a dwarven 13rgr/6pal/1monk with the aim to have AC with agro generation from Defender of Siberys stance tier I and still maintain a somewhat decent strength based DPS ability with greensteel dwarven axes. This could easily be 12ranger/7pal/1monk for some extra paladin benefits or 12ranger/6pal/2monk for extra AC and saves assuming you used monk weapons to remain centered. Someone I know is using a halfling 13rgr/6pal/1monk with high dex and uses light picks. He easily reached a self buffed AC in the high 60s if not low 70s.
