Hi I am completely new to D&D online so I was wondering if anyone could give me any pointers as how the guild works and so forth, any advice at all would be great.

Someone purchase a Guild Charter from the DDO Store and creates a guild. You invite people into your guild. Those new people are called guildies. You and your guildies typically have the same playing style. You and your guildies share money and items and soap with each other. You and your guildies run all quests and raids with each other. That's guilds in a nutshell
