    Default Newbies seeking advice

Hi folks. Myself and a couple friends have just started playing. We only get to play a couple of nights a week and it will be a combination of duos and trios. We are trying to work out some good combos, but with a lack of knowledge of whats to come i figured i'd ask the community for some advice. 32 point builds would be fine too, we are thinking about picking those up. End game content is not a major priority right now. We just wanna hang out and have a good time with our characters that mix well. Thanks.

If your main intent is to have fun, then you're on the right track. Most questions you can think of have already been addressed on the forums, though finding the answers might take a little work. For the most part, this is an extremely helpful community.

1.) Do not follow the prebuilt paths. Roll up your own toons focusing on the primary stats for whatever you choose. Many people have put alot of effort into posting their builds for others to see. Look over the build section for some great ideas.

2.) Use hierlings. They are cheap and easy to master.

3.) Don't rush it. There's alot to this game. Take your time and enjoy!

Thanks for the reply and the links (though you did post the same link for caster and healer, heh), i found some of them but not all. I guess the biggest question that comes to mind is whether one or a couple of hireling clerics would make up for the lack of a player cleric?

Well, you can only summon one hierling at a time, per person. They don't make up for having a real person with you, but they are worth their value in saving you wand and potion costs. A little practice and you'll have them mastered.

The exception would be if you purchase hierlings from the DDO store, a waste of points IMO. DDO store hierlings can be summoned anywhere in the dungeon, as well you can summon more than one.

    Happy adventures!

If there is only going to be 2-3 of you and not always the same sets, you may want to lean toward high survivability rather then max dps speed style play. (At low levels AC matters more)

The first time through it's ok to be slower and reccomended actually rather than when you are doing Water Works for the 25th time.

The other thing I would reccomend is that everyone have some self-healing.

WF arcane (if you have WF)

    Halfling anything with dragon marks

    Battle Bard or Cleric

For the first time through having people with rogue skills is helpful since you don't know where to jump to avoid every trap in the game yet.

And a variety of other multiclassed toons without vowels thnk/r/s/rbll/sgmp

Here's a link to some really great starting builds:

And this one seems like a lot of fun, and great versatility for a smaller group:

Edit: And welcome to the game!!

Yeah, by couple i meant the others playing with me. Though from the looks of things another friend has decided to join the mix too. I appreciate all the help folks. I shall keep on reading and try to match classes to play style and hope it turns out to be effective ingame. Thanks again.

While not nearly as useful as a player cleric, a hireling cleric can do in a pinch, especially if you use it to heal up after the battles. Since the AI on hirelings sometimes has them doing some moronic things sometimes it is better to keep the cleric back then call it to you after each battle and heal up.

    Welcome guys.

I'm a few months into this game and I'm still experimenting like crazy.

Anyways, I would try this game at first with self-healing classes. Seems to be the best way to go.

    Paladin
    WF arcane
    Battle Cleric
    (Just to name a few)

And if you use two weapons or two handed weapons, don't forget to get the feats.
    Huh?
