    Default What's a vet?

I am curious about the criteria of a vet. Is it simply how long you have been playing, if you had an active account before we went free to play, or what? Does skill creep into this status and, if not, should it?

I have been playing since march of 06, yet if you were to have met me for the first time in certain quests you would think I was a noob (abbot or any quest I haven't played in awhile).

So I ask all of you what makes a vet a vet!!

IMO, someone who has been playing the game for a while (years), and has a good understanding of all quests and concepts of the game.

Usually that means they know what they're doing, and rarely fail, unless the lag monster creeps up

Why thank you! It's been an interesting morning following all this feedback regarding the new points program. I'd say an overwhelming negative response from the community.

To the OP, I understand a vet to be several things in the game.

1.) Vet status in game i.e. 1000 favor to get yourself lvl 4 character creation.

2.) Vet status from the community. You're a well seasoned player (not talking spices here) who understands many aspects of the game. You've suffered through the learning curve and have a strong foundation of knowledge regarding character builds, equipment, quests, and how to be effective in the wide variety of situations that your presented with. A vet can be f2p or vip. IMO Vet's should helpful to other players which is also self serving because it broadens your base of quality players to run with.

Here's another twist... does a certain amount of public recognition (celeb status) count in being a vet? Or at least help make the vet's easier to recognize? We recognize and respect people by their posts on the forums, consistency in running/forming groups, etc. - to me the aspect of a leadership role in the server-community elevates someone to 'vet' status.

Definately a +1. And this is also what I would consider a vet.

I would actually say no to this one. Granted, people on your server will definately -know- various great vets (because they have been around forever, helping people here and there with small tid-bits of advice). However, does public recognition make a vet? No.

I've been playin for 2 years, but I still don't know *all* of the quests in this game.

Like someone else said, you'd think I were a newb in the Abbot.

We're thinking about the same thing... people that have experience/foundation in the game mechanics, questing, builds, etc., which is expected to be a decent size group in the population. You could expect that there are plenty of people that fit this description, but you'd never know it cause they don't call attention to it. A small group of that population are recognized cause of helping people actively on the servers, forums, groups - I think it's easier to clasify these people as vets cause they're more visible, by choice of course. But do you 'have' to be visible to be considered a vet... maybe not.

One other example: I always have had tons of respect for the people that post their builds on forums, for others to pick apart, tweak, emulate, copy, and toss aside as the Flavor of the Month(tm). It helps them get great feedback and build stronger characters, and helps those that aren't as great at building themselves. However, I am sure there are plenty of players that have excellent builds that have never published or shared. Consider it their own trade secret of sorts

Well, I know I am not a vet by any means. I have a level 16 cleric and she is known in some guilds as being someone they can trust on a quest. Of course I havent even got a green steel anything, though I can now craft them once I get to the shroud. I believe a vet is someone who can guide and help people who need it. I know the lower level quests like the back of my hand and to some new people I am considered a vet. I do try to help people and I would hope they inturn will help new people when they get to know a quest as well.

Many vets here dont have time or the patience to help newbs, which is unfortunate. I know that there are many great vets out there cause I have met some. Pain is one of them, and Yogul is another. Both from different guilds but both are equally helpful and know alot about the game itself. There are many more you just need to find them!
