I like both for different reasons. But in the end I prefer my Clerics over my Favored Souls because of the versatility and the DH/DV/DC.

YMMV, but I would definately recommend you learn on a Cleric before you run a FvS. You'll master both classes much faster if you start with a wide variety of spells and the disciplined management of mana.
