So, as a counterpoint to my humorous reply to your post and with the caveat that I am extremely sympathetic to the massive suckage of having run the twilight forge 60 times, honestly I think after the second 20 you should just get the *full list* of raid loot to choose from, period. However, there is a certain beneficial aspect to this possibility that named items *should be* rare, and that not everyone should be able to get a chattering ring, or icey rainments or or or.. Personally, I think it would make for a better game if you couldn't deck out 6 toons with every desired named item that you wanted (well obviously in your case you are still unable to..), which is sort of the case with raid loot, but the one example where this is absolutely not true in any way, is our beloved greensteel item system. Personally, I think Greensteels have screwed up the game more than anything else. Pretty much any greensteel item you want, you can get, and even worse you can trade and AH the ingredients and the blanks... So now, we look at the named items in the IQ series, all of which are pretty cool, but none of which really compare to the ability to craft a specific item... Greensteel reset the game in a way that pretty much insured grinding and sort of cookie cutter approaches to character builds...
I am not suggesting anything be changed and this merely a philosophical chewtoy that has been milling around in my head since I stopped playing, but if greensteels dissappeared tomorrow, all of a sudden raid loot that is currently considered to be junk, would become essential, and a lot of quest that are now simply not run much would be popular again. On the otherhand, for those non-powergamers the greensteel system allows one to get an uber item which otherwise might never drop if you only play a couple hours a week... I wonder what the ratio of intended to unintended consequences to game balance and playability is, for every added feature/quest/item in the game. I bet for a lot of things unintended is higher... given a system that is so complex. T
Run the raid on hard, named loot drops more frequently in that raid from our observations.
Difficulty level affects raid loot drop rates (it affects it less on raids that don't change much with difficulty). Base raid loot drop rate is 16.6% on normal. At one point the devs said one of the raids elite settings bumped the drop rate to 25% (at the time people decided this was Abbot only).
Difficulty also now affects named loot drop rates in non-raids starting with the Inspired Quarter (Mindsunder) and continuing on into the Sentinels quest series. Difficulty also affects the random property attached to the Dream Edge from the Mindsunder loot, (eg. Mindsunder normal will produce only dream edges w. lsr banes, hard produces banes, elite produces greater banes).
I went 80 runs w/o a Titan belt (back when the belt was worthwhile). Got the ring from a sorc guildy around the 30th run.

You raise an interesting point, although I don't think you intended to.
Is it the game developer's fault if you covet an item that's rare?
Think about it - 3 points of AC is not game breaking. People don't throw you out of raids because your AC is 71 instead of 74. They don't bring up myDDO and laugh at you because your ring slot doesn't chatter.
And the Chattering ring isn't required to advance in levels. There are no quests that require you to have one before you can enter. You don't need one to get into your guild airship. You don't need to be wearing one in order to craft. It is, simply, nothing more than +3 to AC.
But people want it. They want it badly enough that they will run the same raid 60 times, in order to get it. Why? Because they have created an internal motivation to get to 74 AC (or whatever AC they're targeting).
But why is it Turbine's fault that you have created an obsessive need within yourself for a non-critical item that is hard to get?

Your last statement is being purposely naive about what is or isn't critical for someones particular endgame build and the whole raid loot system is designed to give nonpredictable rewards to encourage repeated futile attempts beyond what someone might normally be willing to do. It's basic Pavlovian conditioning... this time I'm gonna get those gloves. I can't tell you how many times I have opened the 2 chests in the dessert over 2 and half years to only pull a single bloodstone in that time....
If you are a monk, you essentially have to grind for the boots period. The newer content is even more grind oriented, and without question epic is all about the grind. So, yes Turbine is "at fault" if that's what you want to call it, or more appropriately it would be "by design".
What Mithran is talking about isn't really as much about the grind as it is about luck, you could get the chattering ring in the very first run of the titan... Needing essences, scrolls, ingredients, sigils, tokens, discs, etc... is, if I am not mistaken, the definition of grind. I think the reason that people are much more willing to put up with the shroud grind is that you can make the exact item you want and you are assured to get all the stuff you need, or be able to buy/trade what you need in much less time than even 20 titan runs...
