Where do you get tomes?
These tomes that give extra stats
And how many per stat can you use?
You get tomes from quests or ddo store
+1 tomes -quest level 8 or more / or ddo store
+2 tomes quest level 16 or more / or ddo store
+3 tomes in raid chest / 20th completion reward from reaver fate raid and more
+4 tomes in Tower of Despair Raid end chest / 20th completion reward
You can use how many tomes you want, they don't stack, only the higher is applied, so if you use a int tome +1 and int tome +2, you get a total of +2
For those with money to burn or lots of Turbine Points, tomes can be acquired from the store. In game tomes can be found in chests and as end rewards with raids having a higher percentage of drops in my experience. Tempest spine is one quest where i have pulled many of my +1 tomes. I've seen +2 tomes in the VON and Titan raids as well as in some of the higher level explorer areas. As far as I know +3 and +4 tomes are raid rewards only.
In DDO tomes do not stack. If you use 2 +1 strength tomes you only get a +1 bonus. Also only the highest value tome used will take affect. Example my wizard used his +2 1750 tome for Intelligence to get to go from 31 to 33, but when he got his +3 tome from the Reaver raid his Int only went from 33 to 34, getting only the +1 difference between the tomes.

How about using multiple tomes, not stacking them, like a +2 DEX tome then a +2 INT tome?
just to clarify:
the tomes on the store were added years after the game was released, so you are not expected to buy them to gear up your character.
this means the supreme tome is only a short cut to get all your stats boosted, you can use one of each regular tome to boost all the stats you fancy.
also note that the reward for getting 1750 favour is a +2 tome of your choice for any character getting 1750 favour and 32 point builds being unlocked on that server.
you can get 1750 favour at lvl16 as we did when that was the level cap. however the exp will be coming in fast and most players will probably hit lvl20 before they get 1750 favour unless they make a specific point to get the favour. it does however mean every character can plan on having one +2 tome of their choice.

Since no one else has, I will be the one to issue the warning:
The game will allow you to apply the same type of tome endlessly and will NOT warn you that you that you've already used one.
Example:
If you apply a +1 Strength tome, you can continue to apply +1 Strength tomes, but any you apply after the first, will have no effect.
If you can't remember which tomes you've already used, that information is on your character sheet (although it's not obvious).
Hover your mouse over one of the ability scores on your character sheet, and you will get a little pop-up window with the breakdown of your ability score. In that little pop-up window, anything listed as an "Inherent" bonus is a tome bonus. Use that information for checking ability scores to which you've already applied tomes.

Please feather it in for the new guy. I am a LvL 7 AA Ranger. I just got a rare upgrade tome of constitution +4 to +5. My stat is Con 14 +2. I bought a +2 to +3 and a +3 to +4 ie. (not knowing how to use them). I have tried them all by double clicking them. They all failed saying I don't have an inherent upgrade. I did read the tome info. I understand it says I have to have an inherent upgrade +2 to +3, I do so what am I not getting or using right? Thank you
In order to use a +2 to +3 upgrade, you need to have used a +2 to start with. Each tome gives an inherent bonus to the stat, which can be seen on your Feats list on character sheet. So, you can use a +2 or +3 etc, but in order to use an upgrade you need to have the initial bonus; a +3 to +4 upgrade needs a +3 inherent bonus to start with. In your particular situation, you would need a +1 tome and an upgrade +1 to +2, or simply a +2 tome to start with, which can be gotten from total faction favor on your server.

What is your +2 in CON from? Equipment, Jewels, ?. The Tomes don't work off what ever your pluses are to stats which can come from equipment etc...., but off of each previous Tome. If your +2 wasn't from a Tome, than you first need to use a +1 Tome to get the ball rolling. Once you've applied a +1 Tome, than the +2, 3 etc... will work.

In this particular case, the poster is not intentionally trying to make extra Cordo-work like some necros seem to be. It probably should have been it's own thread for the question, but we're here now, so...
If I'm understanding you right by what you posted, you seem to be looking at the +2 hp you get for the 14 Con. That is not what the Tome applies to. That is just what benefit you're getting from that score of 14.
I'm going to guess that CS won't help in this case, tho it would be nice if they'd refund the two upgrades so you could buy a straight +4 tome.
(Not going to get into the opinions of whether one should or shouldn't buy them. Just trying to help the poster out from where they're at currently.)
So, with those upgrades already purchased, I suggest one of two options:
1) Buy a straight +2 Con Tome, which will start you up the ladder of using those upgrades.
OR
2) Hold those upgrade tomes and work your favor up to 1750 and get the reward +2 tome for that.
(Wiki page on favor, scroll down to the bottom under "Total Favor") https://ddowiki.com/page/Favor_Rewards
edit, option 2a) Watch Auction House / Shard Exchange for a +2 Con tome.
Also note, as others have pointed out, info posted on earlier dates in this thread is outdated and incorrect. Most notably, when you eat a Tome, it's yours forever. NOT lost on TRs.

If you can catch the +2 Tome of Supreme Ability, which adds +2 to ALL stats, on sale in the DDO store, I think that's the best way to go. I believe I bought several for either 1796 or maybe 1996 TPs. For comparison sake, buying six +2 tomes in the AH would cost, on Orien, around 2 million plat. Doubtlessly, it cost much less real money to earn the 2 million plat and buy the six tomes, but I think it would take you far more hours of grinding in game to earn the plat than grinding in real life for the cash to buy the TP.
Note that there is a +1 Supreme Tome available in the AH as well and for slightly more than half the price.
In game, pretty much any quest level 8 or higher can have +1 tomes drop either in chests or as an end reward. In my experience, they become a bit less rare by the time you hit Gianthold (level 12ish). I have never gotten a +2 Tome from any quest below level 16 or so and get them most frequently- if you want to call it that- from Vale quest end rewards.
So I've been reading this, and even though I have multiple toons over level 10, including a level 18, I have never pulled a tome, +1 or otherwise. Why is this? Just bad luck?
