    Smile God syndrome

Please quit telling clerics they are God. Noobs tend to beleive it when you tell them they are important and someone needs them not the other way around.
I was speed leveling (for me anyway)a level 6 ranger when I saw a group up for Delaris normal so I swung by house P and bought 10 wands and joined the group. When no clecic hoped in quick I asked group if they were game with me healing the three others agreed so we made it about half way through part one when a rouge and a cleric joined. Decision was made to go back and get optionals so all would get as much xp as possible.
Any way we go in part two and all is clicking and all but the cleric make the jump to the chest. someone in the group tells him not to worry we will get it from the back side later and we all go on. But the cleric he puts in party chat that if we dont wait on him he leaves. Thought about sending him a tell letting im know how sorry it is to drop group in quest over something like that but decided why waste my time.
What a jerk. Who thinks anyone needs them anyway. Guess what we finished just fine with just one death (mine) at the end fight of part 3. The person doing the healing shoudent get agro of the wrigth lesson learned.
Then I got to thinking I have noticed a lot of this clerics dont need anyone everybody needs you talk on the forums lately. Please quit this not that I care about a cleric dropping but you are perpetrating bad play when you give bad advice.

Cleric are important, they fill a role: the healer. In D&D and almost every RPG, there are four main roles: a tank, a healer, DPS/assistance, and magic (spike damage).

The cleric often fills the role of the healer, but not always. In your example, you did pretty well filling that role, but it's a role that needed filled none-the-less. I play clerics often in PnP, and I get a little annoyed when people think my character is nothing more then a mobile first-aid kit.

But I knew he would be when I created him.

Similarly, clerics and FvS in DDO should expect the same thing. They are healers and buffers by nature and really should be played by people who understand that. That being said:

Be nice to clerics who deserve it!

Good clerics spend a lot of time and energy to get there. People who don't understand the class' role won't make it very far. So be nice to your friendly cleric, but only if he's doing his job right. Don't wait on him if the rest of the party wants to move on, but don't outcast him either. Help him cast if you can, so he can save spell points/wands for when they're really needed.

Sorry, /rant. I am getting tired of seeing people in this game either ragging on clerics who think they're important, and players playing clerics who think they're the center of the universe. Seriously, wisdom is a central stat for a cleric for a reason.... ;p

    Cleric is not God.

Right. Jesus didn't have to 'prepare' his miracles each day. He could cast any spell he knew ;p

You do realise by single handedly saving that group of sponges, in effect you yourself have become a god ?

Nah, he should have taken the Weapon Focus/Specialization feats for the pick. Picks can be awesome and unassuming weapons

    1. I think your cleric was playing a cleric for all the wrong reasons.

    2. Too many players don't know how self-sufficient they are. Many classes can whip wands, and all classes can drink potions. They just don't, so they think they need a cleric.

    3. Until a cleric plays other classes, they don't realize how self-sufficient others are ...er, can be.

If you're questing well above your level, clerics are often a make-or-break class for the party, but basic at-level questing is doable shorthanded and missing any class.

Default Clerics aren't 'needed' for any content in this game

They are not and should not be nanny-bots for ANYONE and similarly should not expect preferential treatment (especially if you built it only to be a heal bot, you end up needing others more than they ultimately need you).

I have deleted 2 heal bot clerics out of disgust, and now am rolling a melee/offensive casting/healing pure dwarven cleric, a 'mutt' Battle Cleric (that I mostly solo because of the understandable disdain most have for battle clerics in the current environment) and am getting ready to TR my wizard into a cleric/monk hybrid and I don't ever expect or realistically think I deserve any extra gratuity or deference.

I don't heal stupid tho, and as such, will not waste resources on a failed experience....if the group is not working together, or some are not geared for the content, I won't slow you down, cause I won't be there, or I will be carrying your stone around while I play.

I agree. Although I am self sufficient I know the value of a good cleric and I never expect to be healed... I do expect that any class is played at the very basic level of the way it should be played and if you can go beyond that great.

Hey Anthem you are my God!!

IMHO this guy is one of the best clerics in the game and he is all mine... MINE!!!!

I have an M.D. from Jorasco, I am board certified in emergency battlefield medicine and trauma surgery, I have been awarded citations from seven different medical boards in Ebberon, and I am never, ever sick at sea. So I ask you; when someone goes into that rest shrine and they fall on their knees and they pray to God that their fighter doesn't recall or that their rogue doesn't bleed to death from trap damage or that their mage doesn't suffer acute neural trauma from feeblemind, who do you think they're praying to? Now, go ahead and read your Bible, _vindicater_, and you go to your church, and, with any luck, you might win the annual raffle, but if you're looking for God, he was in Prison of the Planes on November 17, and he doesn't like to be second guessed. You ask me if I have a God complex. Let me tell you something: I am God.

I would refer to my post but it is a wall of text so read with caution. http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php...21#post2880121

Gonna state this only because I keep seeing the same thing to and its funny I have clerics and favored souls and the best parties I run with are ones I know DO NOT NEED ME. They have me a long just in case things go bad but they also know that im going to help combat or throw spells to make the quest go smoother not sit around with my thumb in my arse till someone gets an owie.

In my many cleric rants ive talked about people who think clerics/favored souls are supposed to heal stupid we dont.

But ive also talked about how funny it is that some think that they are needed when they are not. There are people doing all X class raids without healers, they go threw quests short manned gasp taking care of themselves

So yeah people need to get off their high horse and others need to stop kissing bad clerics butts because trust me the good ones are probably ahead of you getting the job done not worrying about some **** chest.

Awwwwn! Thanks. But coming from a guy who almost never gets hit, it just underscores how unnecessary we clerics can be!

Malice... I liked that movie for reasons I can't recall. But I will always remember that Alec Baldwin monologue. Might be cause I'm medical. Might be moreso because I've worked with too many surgeons who that epitomize that statement.

I'd rep ya if I could...
