With the same basic music being played that actually gets downright boring to hear. Also, why no magical bard instruments or much bard related loot?

    1) My suggestion for the lack of bard instrument variety is to add a slot just for bards on their inventory like how Turbine did for LOTRO with a crafting item slot. It works somewhat similar to a weapon set slot in inventory but does not count towards a weapon slot. Basically it is put in that slot and when a bard begins to use Bard songs it will only appear in their hands for the animation but not physically be in there hand to replace an actual weapon they might have in their hand at the time.

This will allow any bard to put an item in the bard instrument slot and not worry about it taking up their weapon slot. You can change it out for a new instrument and be lockable if desired.

    2) Start introducing some masterwork and enchanted bard instruments. With some named instruments scattered around in chests and end rewards. Treat them no differently than normal loot. The instruments will have"+" to DC checks, longer duration of songs, increased power of some songs, or mimic arcane or divine magic spells/effects for some as well. Read through some of the lore from the D&D rule books for some ideas as well.

    3) Allow for more than one type of instruments. Add Lyres, harps, bagpipes, violins, flutes, drums, etc. rather than JUST a mandolin. Varity please.

    4) Allow for more variety for the songs being played per instruments.

Turbine might not care to put any effort into any of these ideas but I hope they at least consider some of these ideas.
As a major fan of bards, I feel the need to correct you here. Bards play the lute, not the mandolin. You can tell, because lutes have 7 strings, and a teardrop shaped bowl, with the neck bent back. Mandolins' bowls are rounder, with longer unbent necks.
