The Exploiter can hit AC that's effective in 95% of the game and still do a ton of DPS. With the right gear can have over 500 HP (Close to 600 with buffs and Yugo pots). Sure you'll get hit in Epic but so does everybody else.
Does the exploiter have high HP? No. Although it has high AC to mitigate dmg and saves, but still, no high HP.

Does the exploiter have high DPS? Sure its alright, but its nothing great (a barb, fighter or pally spec'd for dps would trounce it). IMO if you give anything a couple Double T3 Greensteel it would deal some sort of DPS.

My point remains. In DDO if you want to gain something in a build, you MUST lose something in order to obtain it. Want more DPS? You're gonna lose something.

True, but there are ways to get almost as much as max in each category and some extras with some careful planning. One can add evasion, higher saves, immunities, etc... to classes that otherwise would not have them. It seems to me that taking the abilities from two or three classes and carefully mixing them together can make one hell of a tough all around toon. From what I have read, people can be very creative when they have the knowledge needed to do this.

There are a lot of interesting combinations that to me, help keep the game interesting. Making your own unique mix that works is quite a fun challenge. I, as well as many others I'm sure, like all the info I can possibly get to make an educated decision on what strategy to take to build a good all around useful fun to play toon. Right now I have a human 9ftr/7clr that wields 2 bastard swords with all the feats: twf, otwf, itwf, gtwf. I can solo farm all day and in a group I can backup heal when needed and I still do plenty of damage. If I don't have to do any healing I am usually among the top in kills if not the top. People might think ewwww but it works for me.

He has high dex and wisdom so I am considering adding a couple lvls monk for the evasion and wisdom bonus to AC. The info I've found on here has helped me to think about this. I would have to wear light armor for the evasion but that is ok since even with armor mastery I do not get all my dex bonus from mithral full plate. I am open to suggestions on this. It's all about having fun and making a chr that fits your style. So keep on with the good info. Thanks!!

What do you mean the best melee build?

I agree that you need to narrow your focus a little.
As other people have said, it's impossible to have High AC, High Saves and High Damage, ETC....

So many people want a melee build that is God-like and if such a build existed, there would be no diversity in the melee section of DDO. Everyone would be THE BUILD. If you want evasion, you gotta wear light armor. If you want High Damage, your gonna have to sacrifice some DEX.....List goes on.

    Although....
My favorite melee class would have to be the Paladin though.
They provide AC, Concentration and Saves to Team mates.
They have moderate AC and damage.
    They have incredible saves.
    Paladin- All the way. :P

But we all strive to make the best possible, closest to god toon that we can. That is what drives most everyone that plays the game. We want to run into battle and own! Of course we will never quite make a god build (and it would be nerfed immediately if we could) but some builds are definitely better than others so again, we learn, tinker, and try to make the best one possible. I do like paladin as well. I have a lvl9 paly and I like him for all the reasons you mentioned. I just hate how feat starved they are but I will keep him pure and do the best I can with him. Thanks for the input.
