    Default 28 pt Paladin KotC

Here is my paladin, my effort to make a melee effective paladin with 28 points. Cleave is there for fun, might swap later for something more "efficient". Feedback welcome, especially on skills. So few points, not sure what to do with them. Other than that, pretty satisfied so far.

I would suggest dropping WIS to 8 and relying on +WIS items to get to 14 (shouldn't be too bad to get the items). This gives you a couple more points to play around with. Maybe put on more into STR, then pump your CON or CHA with the rest.

Skill point wise, UMD every level. Balance is a good choice for your second skill. With a lower STR then traditional melee, you'll get knocked off your feet a few times. Balance will help you get back up to continue the fight. Consider taking a couple points out of Balance at first level to throw into one rank of Tumble. It's a situationally useful skill, so having one rank (which allows you to actually tumble) and a +Tumble (or DEX) item might come in handy sometimes.

Enhancement wise, I'd try to get the full Divine Sacrifice line as well as Diving Might II. Third tier Toughness might also be nice. Would drop Item Defense, Divine Light, Extra Turning or the Bulwark enhancements to make room. I doubt your AC is going to be significant if you're going KoTC and aren't taking the AC related Feats, so I don't think the Bulwark line is going to help much.

You could also consider dropping the second Toughness feat for something like Skill Focus: UMD. You'll be able to push your UMD closer to that 39 (Heal scrolls) or 35 (Raise Dead).

In addition to dropping Wis to 8, as Shish recommended, I would suggest dropping Dex to 8. Put the points in either strength, con, or charisma. With a 28-point paladin, you're just not going to be able to achieve meaningful AC, so there isn't much point in trying.

THF gets double the strength mod added to each attack, so something like 18/8/14/8/8/14 would deal solid damage, get at least DM2 (with a +2 tome or +1 plus a level-up) and have a good pool of HP.

Otherwise, you're definitely on the right track!

Thanks for the advice, the points on dex and wis especially. I never feel comfortable having stats in penalties, but what you have said makes sense.

That is why you have items. Don't waste base stat increases in useless stats.
