Default i think i have a new most hated quest...

I will moan and whimper all the way through Coal. Having the twitch skills of a dyslexic sloth it's not my favourite. The number of times I just feel like crying when I fall down that %^&*% shaft YET AGAIN. I don't play platform games of FPS cos they stress me so much... and that is stress...

But TODAY... for the first time I did - The dreaming dark... you know that quest at the end of the island bit in the IQ?

    Oh man.

I think I have 2 strategies if I ever want to craft in there (and unfortunately, very painfully unfortunately, I do need to).

    1) have trusted friend take over my account and navigate me up there (a moment of thought and the mess of my controls and ... I really don't think that be a pleasant expeirence for anyone)

    or

    2) /death and have someone rezz me after the jump around bit (or is the whole quest like that? I only did the light gravity bit right at the beginning - it got so painful I dropped). Or just carry me to the end boss... whatever.

    QUestions
    a) Is strategy no. 2 entirely unreasonable?
    b) If answer to a) is "No. I would take plat to carry someone's stone" how much would you think would be reasonable to charge.
    c) Is the rest of that quest all based on jumping around and not missing? Far out thats painful. I didn't mind in the unmodified part of Von2 because I could be careful and sure and do ok. But this... no...

    /flame retardant suit on.

Yeah. Call me a noob. Call me lame. idc. This quest does not make it onto my list of fun things to do.

entire quest is a jump puzzle, right up until the last fight.

4-5 jumping sections, optional chest in a jump puzzle, all jump really.

    Right.

That answers that. I know some people love that sort of stuff. But personally I am only ever going to do that quest stoned.

What you want to do is climb to the top with everybody and then "accidentally" fall off, run around screaming I'm lost, agro some mobs and scream Hjealz.

Then commence the 30 minutes free piking youve just earned yourself.

Doesn't get me to the end boss fight bit *where the crafting alter is*.

    Sigh.

I'll just be honest. I hate that quest. I hate it A LOT. I will pay plat just to be carried there, fight end boss and then craft in peace.

Don't worry, the devs gave you an out. If you fall at anytime, there are different platforms with dimension doors that will take you to different parts of the quest by-passing the jumping to get there. If you party is far enough ahead of you, well, just D-door back to them. Easy peasy.

    +1 for the dyslexic sloth

The annoying thing... about those jumps is that under the light gravity one moves so slowly then once again under heavy your speed in normalized... tosses off ones feel of the character. I have decent twitch skills when on like characters but going from say a barb or monk to that of a cleric done drives me bloody to drink. I have decent twitch skills but I dislike that quest when going from one character to another... am so impatient sometimes I hit that "W" key and run off the edge due to it's not moving for the quicker pace am used to.

Suggestion - as you jump up rotate the camera view slowly above the head of your character so as you're looking down... this helps you judge better for landing on the platforns etc...

Also... note this - when each section is cleared and you move on to the next - a shrine and a portal is opened near the beginning ... thus shall you fall after the dream market is clear a portal leads back there, likewise after the dream phalarain (sp?) is cleared a portal in the beginning is also openned up to that ... the arena etc...

If you /death it sends you back to your bind location, so you can't pike the quest

Hehe Mel, I actually like Dreaming Dark more than I do Coal...maybe because there seems to be more space and you're not just going around in circles...Of course people have called me crazy

How being dyslexic (ie having a problem to read and write) affects a sloth twitching skill? :P i mean, a dyslexic sloth should have the same twitching skills than a regular sloth....

The devs have long said they make quests to cater to a number of different individuals... some prefer quests with puzzles, with fights-only, with flatforming aspects, etc. They're sorry not everyone likes every quest, but are happy that some of these quests fully distinguish themselves from the others.

Unlike the Pit or Coal Chamber, the Dreaming Dark does spawn two portals near the first rez shrine that get you past most of the platforming type jumps in this quest. And falling does not cause failure. If you can't make it from the 2nd rez shrine to the altar fight [message redacted].

Personally I prefer the Dreaming Dark over the rest of the IQ/DD series for it's uniqueness (Jeet's is a close 2nd). Please don't berate the devs for a different type of quest here and there... just note that most of the IQ/DD quests are pretty straight up fight-through style and enjoy those even if there's a little stress and whining in the last quest.

If you need to craft in DD... try to platform... fail... take the 2nd portal... and if you're having problems getting from the 2nd shrine to the altar... might want to make friends with 7 year-old next door. They would classify the DD as too easy of a platformer I'm guessing.

Ooooh! Actually yes that's probably another strategy! Except no 7 year old. Thinking about it I have friends who do not play DDO but who are naturally brilliant at all sorts of these twitch games - I might ask them.

Drat it on the /death.... By the time I'd actually died people would have killed the thing killing me or healed me despite me begging not to I suspect.

Oh don't get me wrong - I think that it's great that this sort of variety is in there - I do acknowledge that there are those who love that style of play. Just not for me. Oh so much NOT for me...

No, no, no, sir you have it all wrong having the twitch skills of a dyslexic sloth means you are really slow at the jumps and you are usually jumping in the wrong direction in which the party leader tells you.

Also some dyslexics have problems with time keeping and concept of time, especially when doing complicated task. Not to mention difficulty comprehending rapid instructions, following more than one command at a time or remembering the sequence of things.

So the meaning of dyslexic sloth is that not only is he really slow at learning he is also really slow at timing his jumps. Hope that clarifies that up a bit.
