hi all! so basically, my goal for this build is mainly to exploit enchantment magic, with a little bit of illusion (yes a beguiler.) i could prolly get rid of the dragonmarks for some metamagics, i was sort of going for flavor there. UMD was mainly for wand usage, should the need ever arise.

ive been looking into Ghoste's shadow mage build, got WF unlocked, but i wanted to make something of my own. (Ghoste inspired me to make this one. Cheers to you mate!)

anyways, is there anything that i could do to improve more on this?

First off I'd drop the points in dexterity and put them in constitution, then take the feat Insightful Reflexes to get INT bonus to reflex saves instead of Dexterity.

Then I have to point out how useful being warforged is, i get that your trying to be unique and if that's all you want then stay with what you have but reconstruct hit for 285 hp and only cost 35 mana there is really no reason to go anything other than warforged mainly because you are a wizard and don't take a hit for being one to INT.

But, if you insist on being elf or human or something then you should probably take the Spell DC feats like spell pen and spell focus to try to get you intsta-death spell DC's as high as you can.

ah, yes. i did take spell pen, greater spell pen, and some spell focus, so im good in that department. that 12 con was prolly mocking me right after posting it... ill make the switcheroonie there.

stellar advice on the insightful reflex there. jumped by about 5 points or so? what level would you recommend taking it? im kinda leaning towards taking out combat expertise for it.

any metamagics i should consider? i was thinking of enlarge or extend, something along the lines of those. im crud really when it comes to these feats.

A couple of things I would suggest.

    1. Go warforged, unless you *really* really have a thing for elves. Being able to heal yourself right out of the box with repair spells is a huge advantage, not to mention the ton of immunites you get as a warforged.

    2. Use dex as a dump stat, and take insightful reflexes to use your int score for reflex saves. Your AC as a wiz is meaningless, so points into dex are a waste unless you're trying to do some kind of weird melee build, which I wouldn't recommend.

    3. Don't start with 8 str, for a couple of reasons.
    a. The best way to level a wiz till at least level 7, is to cast masters touch, and use the best 2 hand you can find. By far the quickest way to get through those early levels.
    b. Being STR debuffed is a major pain, and something that happens a lot, especially later in the game. Having your str reduced to nothing does a whole lot of nasty things to you. I start with 14 str, especially if you go warforged as it's cheap for them. Having 14 str will also allow you to have enough to hit to make using a 2h weapon effective, even later in the game. There are a lot of situations where being able to melee trash down can really save you a lot of mana.

I'd start with 14 str, max int, and the rest in con.

In my opinion, those are sort of the basic things to get you off on the right foot.

    Cheers!

i was in struggle betwean Drow and Warforged wiz/rog. Drow won my case (mainly coase i dont have 32-pt build unlocked) i started
    STR 10
    DEX 10
    CON 14
    INT 20
    WIS 8
    CHA 10
    Startin skils 52
Took first lvl rogue with Toughness feat at start, im now lvl 13 and its fun to play. I would recomand to take Empover, Extedn, Heighten, Maximise for youre meta feats (in that order).
Skils that you need is Concentration, Disable Device, UMD,Search ,Spot (you can forget about Concetration if you use Quicken)

I think this is a good build to start with. The OP also does a nice job of explaining how to play it.

for this build i don't see combat expertise as a useful feat. at low levels you should be able to get gear to protect you from most mob's to-hit and at high levels you will never get a high enough AC for it to matter. i would suggest toughness because:

    a) you will never get a high enough AC to make a difference at end game even with CE
    b) as a wizzy you will be able to case displacement, stoneskin, ect to keep you alive and you will also have evasion from the rogue levels
    c) 166 HP at lvl 20 will make you a drain rather than an asset to a party. mobs at that level will 1 shot you constantly and with people checking myDDO before accepting party requests you will have a very hard time finding people to run with. a base minimum of 300 HP is generally agreed on for casters.

that being said, WF is a great idea for a race because of the self healing/repairing ability and immunities, but if you go the fleshy route make sure you max out UMD and farm the golden cartouche out of delera's so that you can cast heal scrolls on yourself.

    good luck and have fun!
