    Default DR stacking?

so im tinkering playing with a new build, so far he is 6barb/5 fighter.

so he has natural damage reduction, the clickie to impove his DR thru the feats.

ive got some cloak as well that gives me DR 3 on slashy stuff

then i have a pair of golden greaves i sent back. stride 15% DR3

and ive now scored a plate of giants, DR5 i wanna kick around wearing it

will all these stack, in addition to the natural DR? curious to know how it all stacks, since ive never really run a full barbarian before.

The only time DR stacks numerically (i.e. adds up) is when you combine standing DR with blocking DR. Standing DR is simply your highest unbypassed DR. When it comes to DR that can be bypassed (i.e. anything not x/-, where x is a number) the highest DR applies that isn't bypassed by a particular attack.

    Example:

    DR 1/- (adamantine light armor)
    DR 2/- (lowbie barbarian DR)
    DR 5/magic (invulnerability)
    DR 3/pierce, bludgeon (lesser axeblock)
    Blocking DR 4

This guy has 5 DR against any non-magical attack (9 while blocking), 3 DR against any attack with a weapon that is at least +1 and is slashing (7 while blocking), and 2 DR against an attack that is both magical and comes from either a piercing or bludgeoning source (6 blocking). You just check them, highest to lowest, one by one, until you either hit a DR with a dash after it (unbypassable) or a DR that is not bypassed by the specific attack that hit you.

In your case, the highest will probably be the plate of giants, and so your DR is 5, until your barbarian DR is higher. You might want to specify exactly what type of DR all that is (i.e. what it can be bypassed by) even only to say DR 5/-.

ok im not 100% sure but lets see

on my char sheet is as follows

3 / - (should be his natural DR)
3 / - (should be the golden greaves)
3 / - Pierce Bludgeon (should be that furors hide w/ lesser axeblock)
    5 / - (plate of giants)

so how would it all be stacking? i get dr from around 14 points each hit? or ? im a lil new to the barbarian scene....i need to go read up on it. got a quick explanation while i get myself reading into the compendium ?

remember you have different types of dr there - the first is barbs dr, the 2nd off the greaves is untyped, the 3rd is dr applied ONLY for slashing attacks, and the last is dr 5 adamantine.

    That is why they stack.

Tier 2 earth stance gives you:
    DR4/-
    DR1/- when blocking.

Are you saying that if you had epic golden greaves (DR4/-) they would be useless in earth stance 2, but would add to standing DR while in another stance?

    TWF DR=(BAB/3)+2+FEATS
    Wind Stance
    (1/3)+2=2.33-----2+GG-=6
    Earth Stance
    (1/3)+2+=2.33-----2+ES=6

Doesn't earth stance add to passive DR and as such stack with your base DR? making your standing DR10/-?

if you have that on your charsheet, then only the dr 5/- will apply and the rest doesnt matter, cause the dr5 is the highest and nothing will bypass it

it doesnt stack because its passive DR, not because its magic DR (what its not)
