    Default Tempest Archer

This is a build that that would provide a more balanced mixed of ranged and melee abilities. I'm not sure if something like this has been posted yet. First attempt at using the character planner, so bear with me. I can see that it will catch some flack for losing the Ranger capstone, but things like Tempest I for when you need to melee, Kensai II for power surge, and the Fighter Haste Boost will hopefully compensate.

I do not know if the character planner has not been updated for Arcane Archer, or if I am missing something, but I could not take any of the AA Enhancements at level 10. I was trying to add it as the Elven Arcane Archer at level 10 when I picked up Weapon Focus Ranged. It's late, and I'm guessing I'm missing something

I am pretty sure that if you have any levels in Ranger you can only be a Tempest or an AA not both as both are considered a Ranger PRE. Perhaps someone more knowledgable can explain it better...

I understand that I would not be able to take Arcane Archer as a Ranger Pre, since I have taken Tempest. I was hoping to be able to take it as an Elven Pre.

edit: As soon as I untake Tempest at 6, I have Elven Arcane Archer appear as a choice at ten.....listed as a Ranger PRE. The builder is classifiying Elven AA as a Ranger Pre, thus not allowing both. Does anyone know for sure if this is also how the game classifies Elven AA? I was pretty sure the Elven AA is completely different from Ranger AA...using different levels as qualifiers for the different enhancements.

I am pretty sure that it counts as a Ranger pre if ranger is taken. It appears to be the conclusion here on the forums. I have not seen a dev confirm this though nor have I actually tried to level one

Yes, that's how the game works it.

In other words you can't have your cake and eat it too.

Dawn is correct. It counts as a Ranger PrE.

And now you know why the forums aren't flooded with Tempest / Arcane Archer builds, Crann. :-)

Also, why wait until lvl 20 to take monk 2? Why not take both monk levels a lot sooner so you can get Evasion? Say, ranger 1-6, then monk 1-2, then fighter 1-12. You'll have to re-arrange your feats a bit and you delay Kensai a couple of levels, but Evasion at lvl 8 is worth it, IMHO.

I never understood this phrase, as you CAN have your cake and eat it too.

You just have to wait a day or two, call it something else, and try not to breath deeply around it. Oh, and don't go flinging it around

Oh well, wishful thinking. Your right on the monk levels sooner for evasion, was just kinda playing with planner on first attempt at using it.

But once you eat it... you no longer have it.

Notice this dilemma never arises when eating others' cakes.

Conclusion: have your cake but eat others' cakes.

Corollary: watch out cake. No cake is safe...

    Nice.

But you can have you cake and eat it too. You have it, so you can eat it, very simple.
What you can't do is eat your cake and have it too. I don't know why so many people get this phrase backwards.
