Default Thoughts from a 2nd in Command

::Warning: Semi - In character Post about OOC issue::

My name is Sorentia d' Kil'ndar, Paladin in service to the Sovereign Host and 2nd in Command of the Nites of Darkness. For those that do not know us we are a small guild of friends that have met here in Stormreach and have formed together in a bond of friendship and shared aspirations. Our guilds goal is a simple one, give a home to those who seek to grow, become stronger, and enjoy our world of adventure and excitement in a relaxed and non-stressful enviroment. We don't zerg, but we don't flower sniff either. When things go pear shaped we blame the smurfs and laugh then move on while still holding people accountable for their own actions.

Recently our guild leader, Mlorb, has been pulled away to other realms and has been unable to continue with his mantle of leadership within the guild so it has fallen upon me to pick up and move on until he may return to us. In this I have recruited several promising members that have good humor and enjoy the world around them. However this has led me to some situations as of late that make me question myself as a leader and wonder what I should do.

The most notable incident was today. Four of us from the Nites of Darkness along with someone that knew one of our number, were heading into the Soami gardens to hunt down the evil inside the monastary. The person who had joined us four on our quest mentioned a certin individual in House Jorasco that could help with reincarnation to which one of our guild members, who had made some choices that he regreted, jumped on it and immediatly purchased the lesser heart of wood and sought to under go the reincarnation on the spot. He needed our assistance in the re-leveling however, particularly mine, and despite our insistance that he wait till later to do it he went ahead and started the process. For the last three hours now I have walked him through the process, in which he still managed to make errors, and patiently tried to help him make choices that would result in his strength growing rather than diminishing. Through all this the person who suggested it at first stayed with us trying to help until just a short bit ago when his guild called for him. Our two other guild members have been running around slaying, hoping the wait will be over soon, so we can continue with our questing.

Now I sit frustrated, wondering if I should have left him to his own devices as the intrim leader of the guild, and pressed on in our questing, or if I did the right thing as his friend and stuck around to help. It is times like this when effeciancy and time wasted conflict with friendship that I truely dispise being looked to as a leader.

When all else fails, blame the smurfs!

They can make airships, towers floating in the air, but they never think of adding handrails in places like this (Exert from a Hound run from one of our party members)

I would have probably told your friend not to try reincarnating on the fly, especially if feeling rushed. Better to have spent some time with a character generator/planner first and figure out exactly what you want to do in an environment where mistakes can still be corrected. Once you get what you like, print it out and use it to run through the reincarnate process, makes it much smoother. The reincarnate process itself is not that fast even if you do have it all planned and then, to top it off, you have to recreate all your hotbars. I would've tried to make your friend wait, for the good of your group and the good of the one reincarnating.

    Just my 2cp.

I really think this is the wrong place to ask that question as there is no right answer.

    But since you did...

Talk to the person and explain that you would like to help but that you have made other commitments and need to honor those as well. Schedule some time to work with the noob (IF you want to). Just because he started the process doesn't mean he can't suspend or stop it.

Bottom line is your "leadership" is that of a online game. It's not like a real leadership role - so you can pretty much do what you feel is the right thing to do without repercussion.

Go on with the adventure, help him with reincarnate afterwards.

Do not reincarnate in a rushed situation, or without a prior plan to refer to.

Really it wasn't ment to be a question, perse, more of a "OMG I am going to strangle him how do I keep myself calm?! Oh! The forums!" type if thing. I just needed to let it out and vent, but I don't like to "vent" insofar as complaining about people. I'd rather put it into a more creative format and let it be read and hear opinions and thoughts on it.

As for doing what I feel is right with out repercussion, I sadly disagree with that. Even tho it is a virtual world and the guild is a part of that, the people in it are real people who have feelings and thoughts. I take these into consideration, or atleast I try to, and do my best not to do something unfairly to another. Yea, my guildie frustrated me to no end when he pulled this stunt on us, but at the same time it is the type of thing he does from time to time. He gets very one track minded about something and at that point deturing him is niegh impossible. On the other hand, when the chips are down he has yet to let me down inside the quests. Just outside of them... sheesh... Love him but want to strangle him if you know what I mean.

So yea, read, digest, enjoy, and make your own opinions and thoughts about what I experienced known. Just please, understand this was primarily a way to let myself relax from what was a stressing situation for me as the 2nd in Command of a small guild here in Sarlona.

And no, we are not an RP guild, I just like to do a little RP now and then to relax.

    The DDO character planner rules.

If this person does not have a good idea on what they want to do with an LR, they should use it, screw up all they want, costing them nothing, and when they plan out a toon that is full win with no fail, get naked on a boat and do it up.

    Measure twice, cut once.

My advice as a wise and aged sage would be to punish him but mildly. Tell him to Max Swim...it will be important on the Pirate quests.
