Default How Long Does it take to Cap (level 20)

How long does it take to cap in this game, from level 1 to 20? 50 hours of gameplay? 100 hours? 200 hours?

16 hours more or less with everything planned like openers for good xp quests and a partner.

I joined and started my first toon in November or something, and still haven't reached level 20 (about half way to 19) 16 or 36 hours might be reasonable for a person that has capped a dozen toons already and has a good guild behind them to help when needed, but from scratch knowing nothing? Not a chance.

    Alternatively, I suck.

These two options are not mutually exclusive, I know.

There is no "Right" answer here.

A Power leveler could conceivably do it in 16 Hours I suppose....

Someone else could take 200 Hours...

I suspect the 36 hour people mean 36 hour of gameplay. And at that, gameplay that has been well organized to grind out xp at the maximum xp to minute ratio. Realistically, most people take much longer.

I've seen people cap in 3-5 days, and I know founders who don't have a single capped character yet. It's all about how you play the game.

Does it matter? Play the game, if you enjoy it you'll get to level 20 eventually, if you don't you won't.

You don't want to rush to 20 and end up being one of those players that don't know the game, haven't made any friends and have ended up on all the blacklists of the good guilds on your servers

Agreed. I dont power lvl, I'm too busy having fun.

If you have everything planned out and prepared, you can hit lvl 20 in a weekend. Especially if you use xp pots from the DDO store.

    But what fun is that?
The problem is never how to get new, innovative thoughts into your mind, but how to get old ones out. Every mind is a building filled with archaic furniture. Clean out a corner of your mind and creativity will instantly fill it.

When you ve played 4 years usually you wanna get to end game ASAP, because low level is no fun anymore. Of course if you ve only played less then a year it s a different story.

For your first timer, unknown to the game, playing on most evenings and weekends. Likely 2 months to get to the cap. give or take a few weeks.

For uber powergamer, I suppose 30-40 hours is doable. I doubt the 16 hours statement, that would mean 2000XP/Minute, AFAIK this can only be achieved in the shadow crypt and this one does not work through the whole game. 1000XP/Minute is something I keep reading about some people can do, but also doubt it works beyond those few farmer quests. a medicore 500xp/minute is something a good player can do.

However most players (including me especially at the beginning) are satisfied if they go away with 4000xp after playing an hour.

I think if you are well organised you can average about 60k xp/hour. This is in quest time.

All the dead time is outside that: AH, stores, waiting for PUGs or grinding for particular items and getting no XP (*).

(*) Grinding Shroud at level 14 to get that shard.

This is about where I was. I started in November and tried 5 or 6 different classes/characters before I finally settled on Baaldon in the end of January. I reached 20 in about a month and a half playing on evenings and weekends.

Pug more... Laughs a plenty. Had someone drop Delera's last night because we didn't want to run back through the frost trap in part 1 (no rogue), risking death, to get the chest across from the shrine...yes that +1 Full Plate is make or break for me. ROFL.

Well, I am level 15 on my wizard, and getting pretty close to 16, and I haven't ground out many dungeons since level 13. I wanted to get used to playing DDO without looking like a gimp in groups, so I have pretty much soloed to now. Last two levels all I have been doing is Demonsands, Giant Hold, and Orchard of the Macabre, and have got the xp from wilderness stuff. Level 1-13, I would guess about 30 hours as I figured things out. Last two levels have taken me, say, 40-50 hours. Really depends on what you want to do. I think I can power a character to level 20 now in about 25 hours, but I really don't see that being fun.

Side note: Rare drops truly mean rare, but I do have enough Coronation Shields to light up a Football stadium at night.

Not long enough for newer players to actually learn how to play the game reasonably well. At least to prepare them for the near end game content......

BRING BACK XP DEBT.... Teach people that dying is a bad thing..... That doing the same stupid stuff over and over and expecting to hand held through quests will get them no where. Only penalizing the party for the poor play of others doesn't teach people anything.

I'm a n00b with two capped toons. First one took me about a month, second one was less because he was better equipped and I knew the game better.

DO NOT POWER LEVEL YOUR FIRST COUPLE OF TOONS.

For one thing, a lot of the low/mid-level content in awesome. Lots of variety, you don't even need to play the same mission twice if you're VIP or have a bunch of packs. The lower level stuff is also much more "D&D" than the higher level stuff that dreadfully becomes MMO where you have to grind and play the same missions over and over again.
