Default O.K. need a little good advice

So here it is, I recently started playing as a f2p but then discovered that I really love playing this game, so quickly upgraded to V.I.P. I am completely new to gaming( couldnt get any greener than me) and very uncomfortable with the idea of running quests with other people, so I've soloed everything on normal and have now reached lvl 13 on my Paladin. Heres the thing at first the idea of running with other people was completely out of the question for me, so I looked for other games that were compareable to DDO but could not find anything I enjoyed as much. I want to dip my feet in the water as far as the running quests with other people, but I would like to find a small group that plays similiarly to me. Thing is I'm really new to video games in general and can only assume that I suck when compared to people who grew up playing games, so I need to find other like minded players or people who are REALLY tolerant. Just as an example as far as my abilities as a player I was able to solo Invaders, most of the Threnal content, but still cannot complete Devil Assault in the marcket barracks.... go figure. Anyway the point of this is I really need good helpful advice on how to find the right group.

    Cool Hello and Welcome

I have to say congrats on making it to 13th lvl solo only, and being a greenhorn! I am truly impressed. FYI the quest in the barracks is a lot tougher than it makes itself out to be. I would say, you should go ahead and join a group. You will more than likely surprise yourself. '
'Also, don't hesitate to send a tell to the person forming the group. Most are decent people who will be more than happy to help ease your nerves. And if someone gives you slack for asking them to be kind...you dont want to group with them anyway. Start to build a friends list of people you quest with who have your same playstyle or fit your rhythm well. Soon, you will be starting your own groups and leading raids.

    Be good and have fun!

Hi, it's been a while since I've played in such a group (back on the European servers), very difficult things to find unfortunately but quite easy to start. Start a new character and enter into groups having no expectations - sometimes the chaos that unfolds is the best way to judge who is worth adding to you friends list. Start your own guild with someone on your friends list, using policy of 'quality over quantity' over time things will fit into place.

But ultimately you need to throw yourself into the situation you seem to be avoiding, is confidence a problem? You clearly have some ability in DDO to have soloed to level 13. Above all, have fun.. people seem to forget that bit.

    Hi welcome to the forums.

Glad you're enjoying the game and i have to second arlo there, Newbie or noob your progress so far is pretty impressive. I got to level 8 before i was recruited into a guild and i have stuck there ever since.

Soloing thernal is good stuff, and as for devils assult heres a tip..... dont bother with it Most people i know just skip it all together. I have a level 20 sorcerer who can solo a whole load of the end game. Last week i decided to try devils solo just to get the favour. I done normal ok, hard was fine too.... I then stuck it on elite, which is level 18??!!?? got about 1/3 of the way through and got throughly beat up and down the room. I had so many devils chewing on me i felt like satan's *****. So, ignoring that... IMO your doing great so far.

As to getting help It will then be worth having a look at the guilds on your server. You may not want to get into a guild but im sure there are plenty of people guilded that will help you through. Or you could always join a guild and leave at a later date. As long as its polite thats fine.

As arlo says your other option is to just let the group leader know when you decide to join a PUG. You may feel a bit awkward about it, dont. I will be completely honest and tell you now there is a fair chance you will get at least a smidgin of flack. Unfortunatly, as with any open enviroment there are always a few idiots floating around. However i can assure you anyone WORTH getting help from will almost always be willing to help, and if unable to will point you in the right direction.

DDO is perfectly playable solo but the kicker is it is VERY hard to solo quests you dont know, especially as you go towards the level cap. You will be looking at gianthold soon (probably) and you will find that hard to get through alone.

My advice would be find a good guild, get them to show you the ropes and then solo as you feel like it. The guild im in is just like that, we all do our own things, we have guild runs officially once a week(ish) and in the mean time if I need any help i either ask there and then or plan it for the following day. You will learn the quests, with less struggle and error, alot quicker and easier then you can quest as you wish.

Dont be shy. This was my first MMO, though not my first computer game by a long shot. I was completly clueless...... now im just clueless i hope to have my 50 meter adaquate badge next month

    happy hunting.

Default Thanks for the quick responses

Yeah, I never played anything in my life other than zelda WAY back when, so this is all new to me. As far as GH, I've checked it out and have only been able to kill around 25 mobs so far over about 7 or 8 visits. So its defineatly time to team up from time to time. I can finally kill the basic beholder as easy as you'd like, but that was alot of trial and error and the right gear and enhancements.BTW I'm on sarlona, again thanks.

Put together your own groups, lead by example, and post the expectation in the LFM.

If you dont like zerging put "no zerging" in the LFM.

If you like self sufficient players, and dont always need a healer in the group, put BYOH in the LFM.

You can see where I am going with this - It sets the expectations previous to people entering the group and it also allows you to get into (and create!) groups that favor your playstyle.

If you can solo Invaders, you obviously understand enough to be useful in most groups at your level. There are only a handful of complicated quests at that level. My advice is simple...

    1) Stock Pots (Resist, Remove, Restore, Heal)
    2) Stay with the Group if you're not running ahead and popping traps and you're contributing DPS your helping
    3) As a Paly pack a wand or two being able to get up an incapped healer is always helpful
    4) Jump into a party for a quest you know like Invaders for example that way you'll be more comfortable

..despite what you read here on the forums most parties are understanding and willing to help. Another option is to roll a new tune and run a few Korthos parties to get comfortable first. I met many a good friend in groups the game is much better when played with others.

Actually coming to the forums was one of the best thing you could have done. Its how I made many of my friends and found the guild I feel I sync best with. The best thing you can do and this is just my opinion is look for lfm's that have clear details of what they are doing. Be up front with being new and hope for the best. It is almost always a **** shoot with pugs so you have to be ready for the ups and downs.

You can also scan guild lfm's that may need an extra or check groups to see how many people of the same guild are in that run and see if you fit in with them to at least run with from time to time. Either way thats my advice and congrats on making it to 13 solo.

Congrats on making to lvl 13 solo!

I'm on Sarlona and have some guildies that I know would group with you, all nice guys. We're all relatively new and still learning the game too. Shoot me a tell if you're interested and I'll hook you up with them. I don't have a toon in the right level range right now or I'd be happy to run with you too.
