I am have been really draging my bootie on rolling up a new toon, but I plan on him being warforged. (I just dread playing through all the old content again)

In fact if they allowed the option when lesser/greater reincarnating I would change all my characters to WF! I am so sick and tired of being level drained, exhausted, and held (poison and disease are avoided easily enough). The WF race is amazingly powerful, I just wish the game allowed size customization as I imagine a halfling sized WF would be awesome!

I cant bring myself to play a character thats NOT WF. I'm tempted to TR into a half orc when they do get released, but I have the sneaking suspicion I'll soon reget it, and have to TR again asap on the orc.

Heh, I think I still have my original 1974 D&D rule set around here somewhere........

I found I have no problemo playing my WF, as long as I have a theme. What I do have a problem with, is some of the Docent armors, they are really fugly. I use an obsolete docent atm just because it looks so much better than a naked body suit Invulnerability docent.

Rolled my first WF a week ago, wizzie, of course. So far not sure about the wizzie thing but loving the WF. No UA item, immunities etc. Great so far.

..on topic - yeah, I resisted them for a long long time for much the same reasoning as the OP. I've gotten over it some, and have a few baby Warfies hanging around on different servers.

Oh man! This just blew my mind! I just KNEW there was something mischievous in the eyes of my WF fighter. Now I know it's the gnome inside. I think I can use this to get in the spirit of the robot. Now to make some "Wizard behind the curtain" style chat macros.

I might be able to play one as a 'nome in a battlemech.
Or if there where tiny ones that where playable.

Turbine didn't create the warforged, Wizards of the Coast did for the Eberron campaign setting.

In PnP I tend to gravitate toward Dwarves because I can relate in a real life way to the personality traits that I think personifies them, and my friends say that it fits me pretty well. Warforged, IMO, are just a slightly larger version of the same mentality so they were not that much of a stretch for me to get into character with. They fact that WF are a part of what makes Eberron distinct from every other DnD world also makes them something fresh and unique after way too many years of playing the standard races. My main is currently a Dwarf, but I gave in recently and now have 3 WF builds I am working on as well and find each of them to be pleasing in their own ways.

I have played all the other races, and although I tend to look past the avatar and focus more on what's going on around the figure, I find that there's just some reason I can't get into playing anything other than WF or Dwarf because I just can't seem to get "in character" with any of the others. Call me odd, but I still like trying to keep a little of the RP in my MMORPG.

Probably the only time I have a hard time playing my WF is when I am in my group's all Rogue-based party. Everyone else created a halfling (most with red hair - although it was just concidence) and here I'm in my dark green WF with my hood and a huge QStaff. I always feel like the creepy old guy about to beat the brood of red-headed step children... they way they deserve it...

I have the same problem with Drow/Elves. That gay-ass stance they have... /cringe

I've got no problem with them conceptually, but I disregard them as a character choice because of the way they look and the pricetag. They're too biomorphic for me, and their faces put me in mind of a turtle. Had they been a little less T-888 and a little more steampunk, I might have been tempted to pony up for the chance to play one.

My wife has a similar problem with WF, except she mostly finds them creepy.

For me, the problem with WF is the fact that they feel clunkier when moving than other races. It's probably just my imagination, but I cringe whenever I have to move around without something like Striding 25% on my WF fighter. Rolling a WF monk helped solve that problem, though.

That, and 90% of the docents are godawful hideous. I'm not sure if I dislike the overly ostentatious spike or the ridiculous yellow sash look more. Is it too much to ask for a modicum of fashion sense from the designers of WF garb? Then again, it always seems like Full Plate skins are pretty bad most of the time, too.

My biggest hang-up isn't with WF, it's with Elf or Drow males. They look like bloody malnourished weasals with bat ears. Whenever I roll up one of the elven races, I literally have to go female because I cannot stand how awful they made the males look. I mean, the females have the awful bat ears too, but at least they strike me with the semblance of grace that I sorta expect from elves.

I have been playing since fall of 06 and I just rolled my first WF about 2 months ago. I had tried them out before, but never got past level 2.
I am a bard guy, and so I prefer self sufficiency and variety to DPS or Nuking ability really.
Then I rolled a Warforged Wizard. Easily the most self sufficient build (I solo mostly) I have made and all the variety a guy could ask for.

Now I have a lvl 13, lvl 11, and a lvl 2 WF Wizard in my stable.

I've been playing +/- 2 months, and after going VIP decided to try a WF fighter. I am a solo'er due to time constraints and computer lag, which gets horrible in a party using my 6 year old computer. As a solo'er, the WF has beaten my human paly, dwarf cleric, and elf ranger/rouge by leaps and bounds. I'm not sure what the upper levels hold in store but the only thing he is bad it is stealth and search/spot. In retrospect, the only thing I would have done different is to customise the skin color to white to see if he looks like a storm trooper ala Star Wars with one of the hoods you can buy for 150 TP.

I like all the races, except halflings, I can't stand the way halflings run. And their heads are funny looking. A couple builds I play would be better with a halfling I think, but I can't do it. Love WF though =)

And yeah, the docents are terrible. For looks, I like the docent of the tomb, it's kinda Indiana Jones looking. A lot of them you look like a robot in a pink skirt with poofy shoulder pads though.

I play Elves, Drow and Humans mostly, though I do have a couple of Warforged as well. If only they'd make a female model... *sigh.*

Anyway, I can't get into Dwarves (too fat) or Halflings (they look stupid when they run), so my hangups on races are there.

Yes, call the good doctor and get cured fast .

Honestly, I love WF in PnP and here in DDO (although at launch they were hosed quite a bit they have since been given their just abilities). I also remember when Elves and Dwarves were classes not races, but that was D&D not AD&D.

What is it that seems to be turning you off? The idea of playing a magically animated construct seems fairly Fantasy enough.
