Default Advice needed on WF wizard/rogue (fighter?) build plan

I am a rather new player but try to read the forums before I make new toons so I (hopefully) dont have to reroll them later.

There is lots of information out there on wizard/rogue/fighter mixes and to be honest, I think too much information is just like not enough... Confused I am.

My plan is to take rogue on first level and then go on to wizfor 8 levels. I am considering to take another level of rogue latrer but am not sure if I should splash a level of fighter (how early?) for an extra feat (and what else?)...

Stat wise, I was thinking :

    Str 08
    Dex 08
    Con 18
    Int 18
    Wis 08
    Chr 12 (for UMD)

This would imply I take insightfull reflexes and maybe even force of personality (Should I lower con for more Chr?).

The other option I see would be :

    Str 12
    Dex 08
    Con 14
    Int 18
    Wis 10
    Chr 10

Being more melee capable with average wis for reflex saves.

Any advice/feedback will be greatly appreciated!

No way on the ftr lvl. You will get 11 feats as is, which is more than most and plenty for this build. The ftr lvl will cost you spell slots and spell points for a single feat that is restricted to physical combat related actions.

Also, dumping points into cha for UMD is also not that good of an idea for a WF caster. You already have self healing and all the arcane spells. Get some rez clickies (shroud or ring of anscestors) and you'll be fine. Besides with the rog mix you can get 23 pts into UMD whcih is enough for you to wand fleshies if necessary.

    Try
    Str: 10
    Dex: 8
    Con: 18
    Int: 18
    Wis: 10
    cha: 6
tha will give ya better will saves with max int and enough con for 400+hp at lvl 20.

force of personality is definitely not woth it either. Insightful Reflexes, definitely is.

This seems like a good WF rogue 2 / wizard 18 build to me.

I'd recommend the following for 28/32 point builds

    Str: 14/16
    Dex: 8
    Con: 16
    Int: 18
    Wis: 6
    Chr: 6

Rogue at 1, Fighter at 9, Rogue at 11, and Wizard for everything else.

The reason for these splits was to keep Disable Device, Search, Intimidate, and UMD at max ranks, with somewhat respectable ranks in Concentration.

The biggest reason for fighter was to unlock all martial weapons without relying on a buggy Master's Touch, but the feat and class skill of Intimidate was important too.

The use of Int tomes is important at level 3 and 7 (and 11 if you can get it) to keep skill points at max, but a Lesser Reincarnate could always fix that later.

The link below is for my TR'ed wizard... I wouldn't push it on a new player, but you did specifically ask about a WF Wiz/Rog/Ftr build.

    Phidius,

I was wondering why you would want intim on such a char? And to a lesser extend what is the UMD for, I mentioned my reasons for not needing UMD, but I am just want to check and see if I'm missing something.

Also, the martial weapons reasoning would imply the player wanted to melee at least some. If the player has no desire for or against melee would you still suggest it and why?

I totally agree with the tomes. this is something people forget sometimes. This can casue a decent number of skill points to be missed out on.

While I do a lot of soloing, I also have a circle of friends that I run with when my schedule permits. Some of these friends are not quite as durable as they could be, and at higher levels Wall of Fire/Acid Fog/etc... don't always grab aggro away from them. I was able to put some passive aggro generation (WF Brute Fighting, ToD Siberys ring/belt) to help pull aggro by default, but sometimes it really helps to grab everything at once.

The UMD is to be able to throw Heal scrolls on them during/after combat, as I don't expect the wizard heal scroll bug to last forever. To be honest, I expected them to take it away the day I noticed it. With the right gear, you can get the 39 UMD without putting a single build point into Charisma.

I like meleeing to save sp, plus I normally get more sp from meleeing than it takes to heal back up, so it's easy-mode for me. I know it's not necessary to conserve spell points with the abundance of pots and smart play, but I enjoy it.

Even if someone didn't want to melee, the Fighter level adds more to the build than it takes away, IMHO. For example, the enhancement "Item Defense" comes in very handy to keep your Docent of Defiance intact for the end fight
