Default Improved Precise Shot: what am i looking for?

so i lvl'd to 11 earlier in the week.

played a bit last night ant realised that i hadn't seen a single time where IPS proc.

am i right in thinking that i would see a load of hits on a mob as the arrow passed through them to hit my target.

do i even need to target the back guy? i.e. if i target the first will my shot continue on?

what's the proc rate for IPS?

any other info on IPS welcome.

    IPS is an active feat
drag it to a hotbar and see if its on or off

when its on it will always work if theres a mob behind another and both are in line of shoot

It also really helps to have the target being the mob that is farthest away from you (use tab hotkeys to help there). You often need to adjust your position as the mobs close when they move around obstacles or other mobs.

When done right, it can be devasting and about the most powerful combat effect in the game (in conjuction with manyshot). When alone, sneak up close and find your farthest target then back up to give some space while keeping that target hard in your focus orb. Prep up and let em rip. Mobs will dissappear in shortorder, many mobs.

    It's active!

    lol, that will explain it.

so is it a stance like stealth and defensive combat?

or a timer like many shot?

if a stance, why would you ever turn it off?

many thanks for the answers guys.

its a stance and you might turn it off because you only want to hit that one guy and not the rest of the mobs which are either not active yet or kited by someone else

It's sort of a stance, though it doesn't have any draw backs... Except the fact that you no longer decides which mobs NOT to hit

Comparing it "stance-wise" to e.g. Power Attack, it doesn't auto-disable when you log out - which I believe is because of the "no draw back" fact of this feat.

I only disable IPS at the rare occasions where there are specific mobs I really don't want to hit - being an unfriendly target I need to protect, specific mobs I'm not allowed to kill, a raid boss that we're not yet to kill and situations like those.

Edit: Heh, I really should update a thread before answering a question in it...
