    Default Revamp fortification items, please!!

Im sure this has been said before, but here goes anyways, since as a new player, this is one of the things that has really been bothering me. Fortification being one of the most (if not THE most) important bonuses you should work on when starting up from scratch.

Why do high level items load with underpowered fortification? Its bad enough that it happens with randomized loot, but to see light and moderate fort on named armor (note: not talking about stackable docents here) at completely innapropriate levels is just ...is just.... TUUUUUURRRRRBIIIIIIINEEEEEEE!!!!!

I know Gianthold used to be level cap content, but its not and hasnt been for apparently a very long time. You might want to give a quick swish over of all this gear taking into account that 1) p2p players almost all farm a minos legens asap and 2) f2p players almost all farm adamantium ore for the necklace and 3) even then you can get heavy fort randomly on belts and stuff at midlevel. And its not just Gianthold, but thats the one that sticks out in my head most. I really didnt feel like turning in any of my relics for the various fullplates, but I definitely would have considered it if they had heavy instead of medium.

As for randomized loot, it would be SO easy to just put a level range on the bonus so that it doesnt show up on what would otherwise be a great piece of loot. No room for heavy fort? Well thank god it loaded axeblock or some clicky or anything instead of wasting the points on light fortification.. etc..

Anyhow, just my two cents. An added bonus: you wouldn't have everyone and their cousin running around in minos legens. Pssssst! You are not special! /showhelmet off is cool! ;-)

Yep, makes about as much sense as a Proof Against Poison Necklace RR Warforged, or a Ghost Touch Rapier of Backstabbing.
Them's the random loot table blues.

if those items would be heavy fort to begin with they couldnt make you farm for the epic version which then will have heavy fort

Heavy Fortification on the relic armor in Gianthold? Yes please. Or at least have them be a stacking bonus type of Fortification as one of the new pieces from update 4 appears to have.

The epic version would be ML 20 so I'm not sure why you said that and the non-epic version would be pretty weak for a level 20 character.

i said that cause its a reason why those named items all have only medium fort

Yes, that is a problem. It is just one of the consequences of using a bad game mechanic such as unopposed percentage immunity chances.

If DDO used better rules for Fortification, then getting it in quantities other than 100% could make sense.

Optionally they could just go ahead and grant all characters a feat at level 6-11ish granting 100% fort, granted 2 levels earlier for WF. Then they could swap fortification for something else on all the items.

    =P

[edit:] I would prefer if they changed the mechanics to be meaningful though

I think they should remove fortification from items. Characters should all have a passive talent that gives light fort levels 1-5 med fort 6-10 and heavy 11-20. I am never happy with any game where everyone needs a certain piece of gear with a certain stat or ability. Lets face it, fort is mandatory.

Absolutely agree. And the change is long overdue.

By the way, I haven't noticed, but do rogue-type enemies even deal SA damage anymore, or have they been readjusted to just deal more base damage in light of the fact that nearly everyone has (and should have) 100% fortification?

High level rogue monsters do have boosted regular damage, and I think they retain Sneak Attack too. I've seen it on the Shavarath Barbazu, and I bet a Dar Quat Assassin has it as well.

They still do. Many of those also got a ridiculous bonus to to-hit when they deal sneak attack damage.

Personally, I'd like to see it stay the way it is. There is enough heavy fort items, you don't have to farm taps for Minos...

I figured as much, but think it's kind of silly: we have items as early as level 9 that make us immune to such things, and those properties become increasingly common as we level, yet we still face monsters that are continually neutered by these simple things.

It's not completely silly. "If monsters don't cast fear spells, why wear Fear Immunity at all?"

Well, fear immunity items apply only to one type of effect, so without the fear of being feared (bdum-chhhh!) there would be no reason to wear such items, but fortification protects both versus crits and SA. It just seems like the continued inclusion of monsters with SA is kind of a waste, as their only apparent purpose is to remind you to put your HF item back on in case you forgot.

WF can get 100% fort at lv 6. It's sweet.
