I've seen quite a few builds that have TWF I was just curious as to whether or not the TWF helps with unarmed or if it is solely for using the Kamas etc.

Did you read the posts that you saw?
The posts explain in exact detail why TWF line is important for an unarmed (handwraps) monk.
Simply put: They add extra "hooks" or attacks to your attack sequence.
Don't think of two WEAPON fighting as literal. the WEAPON in question are your hands in this situation.
This question is very common andd there are many threads already covering it.
Yes TWF line of feats work with unarmed. It is actually weird because Two-Weapon Defense does not. For the most part the boards here encurage Monks to fight Unarmed and have TWF to help them increase their DPS (with all the extra attacks). Kama's are generally recommended only for enhancements you cannot get on handwraps such as Vorpal or Greensteel weapons.
This forum needs a sticky with the title: TWF APPLIES TO HANDWRAPS! TAKE IT FOR GOD'S SAKE!
It is really confusing for new players because handwraps only take up one weapon slot, but this is probably the most common question ever asked on the forums.
sticky thread would be good. Actually just a good Monk FAQ sticky would be nice. There are a few things about monks that can be confusing.
For instance, I had to stumble upon how to make the harmonious balance elemental finishers work.
I've also seen a number of people asking about Qstaffs and thf.
Which, btw, there really should be some Monk enhancements to boost the efficacy of the quarterstaff in the hands of a monk. It is, to me at least, just as iconic as the unarmed monk.
All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king.
Perhaps such an enhancement line could focus on boosting the glancing blow potential of the quarterstaff, making QS monks sort an AoE build?
For instance an enhancement that lets your special attack stuff target some of the mobs hit by your glancing blows with a quarterstaff would be great for both PoL and PoD monks. Progressive enhancements in the line could increase how much of your special attack damage is being applied on glancing blows in percentile jumps. If done as a PrE line, some other, possibly less direct damage oriented, benefit could be added.
Another one I like the idea of is an enhancement which decreases the mob aggro on you when you hit them with a QS, and of course some kind of AC boost when wield a QS would be sweet.
I think weapon specializations like the above would be a great way to do some monk prestige enhancement lines.
What I really would love to see along those lines would be weapon based prestige enhancements which let a monk worry less about optimal gear, making up somewhat for how hard the monk is to build and play effectively by making them easier to gear out.

Because as we all know, smacking a mob upside the head with a big stick isn't going to make it angry (rofl).
Okay, now that my snarky response is out of the way, I'll make a serious response.and of course some kind of AC boost when wield a QS would be sweet.THIS is a great idea. Basically it could work something along the lines of the Ranger prestige enhancements in the Tempest line, which grant AC bonuses to the ranger ONLY when he has 2 weapons equipped. I would think it would be fairly easy to create a line for monks that did something similar with QS's.
Hey, rogues seem to be able to stab people in the kidneys and generate less hate than other people. Why couldn't monks be able to use trickery to make it seem like other people are hitting their targets, so mobs don't pay attention to the monk?
Or you know, he could be using ki magic, because it's dnd. :P
Seriously though, I think the QS is perfect for a weapon dependent AC boost, and greater splash damage from attacks (one of the advantages of a QS, irl, is that you can more easily fight multiple opponents).
